BANGKOK:-- Police who raided two bars in the Saphan Kwai area on Thursday have filed 13 charges against the owners and managers of the establishments.

Underage girls and foreign workers were found selling sex and being involved in naked go-go dancing in the raids at The Best and Harlem bars in the area in northern Bangkok.

Police interviewed all the staff to get to the truth of who was in charge. They found that The Best was run by three men named only as Nai Goo (or Ah Goo), Suchart and Plort.

Harlem was owned by Watana Phuphaijitrakun whose name was on the license. Prasart Bunprasert was also involved in the capacity as manager.

All the suspects were charged with 13 serious offences ranging from employing underage sex workers (under 18), offering 15-18 year olds for sex services, running sex shows and a host of license irregularities.

It's obvious the owners have no real wealth or connections. They will be good examples for the authorities. I just see all justice in Thailand as hypocrisy. Even with this supposedly anti-corruption regime in power, the connected, powerful and wealthy get a free pass. The law isn't the law for all.

Obviously this bar did not have the correctly approved and paid-up "protection insurance" policy. A pity because these special policies are not difficult to arrange and have a convenient easy payment plan where it can be paid monthly by installment. Seems they missed a payment as the policeman, acting as their Insurance Agent, is firmly pointing out to them.

It was never about corruption for this regime. It was always about going after the little guy, members of opposing political parties, and those not in favor of the regime, to make it appear as if it was about corruption. How many CEO's have been arrested for using slaves on their fishing fleets? No, just a captain here and there gets a fine, or gets his boat briefly impounded. For human trafficking! In any other nation that is life imprisonment. How many super wealthy have faced a judge, and been convicted? What about the Red Bull heir? What about the serial killer on Dark Tao, who is still walking free, while the two Burmese patsies are languishing in the Bangkok Hilton. How many high ranking army or police officers have been arrested? The term above the law still relates to all people with wealth, power, connections, and family name.

Ruining Thailand's great reputation as the sex tourism hub !

Sounds more like they're giving the BIB "something interesting to do" to relieve their boredom and get some brownie points from the General.

They would be better dealing with important issues such as:  corruption, education, road safety, electrical safety, etc etc etc

Standby for a mass exit of 'Owners and Managers' who will not be held in custody or have their Passports revoked and will skip across one of the borders.  Seen it happen so many times down the years, all smoke and mirrors followed by everyone back to the gravy train within a few weeks or months.

The OP report doesn't even say if any of the supposed owners or managers of the two bars have been arrested and/or taken into custody. Seemingly, they almost never are in such raids. Always somehow manage to go missing. :whistling:

The police charged the owner/manager of Nataree also after the raid there, but last I heard, have never actually managed to find the guys they charged.  Shocking!!!!

These are unrelated to sex tourism as these specific bars only cater to locals.  If not for this article I doubt most people here would have heard about them.

I believe that they were given a strongly worded  (but very polite) invitation to appear at the most convenient Police Post if they could find 5 minutes in their busy schedules.

A regular brown envelope could have done wonders... poor managing imo!

They authorities have fired the opening shot let the negotiations begin. These bar owners may have been targeted because of their flagrant disregard for the law an easy target. The flavor of the month. Maybe the brown envelopes overall were getting to skinny and it was time make an example of some to pass the message on to the many. A financial tuneup so to speak. The BIB have made their point and I think all and sundry get the message. Even though the government claims there is no inflation in the country I think the BIB is trying to convince their flock otherwise. They also are telling one and all you do not want to be at the end of that pointed finger in the photo
