I believe it is another project to do exactly what they did at the Walking St end of Beach Rd. This one is around Soi 1 and is currently behind the hoardings

More sewage     algae bloom outlets ?

Beach-"reconstitution". There was / is? a big sign up at the walled up construction area beachside before you get to WStr. announcing the project in detail at minimal cost of, I believe it was something like 750 Mio???..... Bringing sand from offshore, re-enforcing beach area with sandbags etc. etc. I am sure it will be done perfect and we will have a beautiful beach very soon.......55555 MS>

Please read the OP. I asked about the construction IN THE BAY, not on the land or the beach. There is a big crane out there, for those that haven't seen it.

Was told, they sucking- /digging- up sand out there and bring it to beach. Seen it done in US and Australia with huge pipelines. Same is done in many places all around the world, but proper planning includes seawalls at specific angles to change currents that wash out sand. Aussies are specialists in this type of projects, also seen it on Canary Islands. BTW, this project started a long time back and the work-barges have been anchored and doing what they are doing in various locations already. MS>

Thanks for what is probably the correct answer. If they are trying to make a bigger beach, they aren't doing very well so far.

You are certainly right. The way it is /was described on the big board it sounded quite funny. They will probably have to-refill the beach every couple of years. Amazing the waste of money. Why not get some Pros from abroad to plan & execute properly? Beyond Western comprehension. Anyway, sadly what is happening on every corner to the once beautiful nature here in Thailand. Just back from a extended "sailing-trip" all along/across the entire  Gulf. While Malay & Singapore marinas and coasts/waters are almost spotless, the moment you cross into Thailand there is rubbish everywhere, onshore & offshore & around islands. Sadly.  MS>

And here the description of the beach-job :-)    Have a nice day all.    MS

I saw that and had a laugh to myself about it. So they are bagging about the ugly sandbags that are falling apart at the north end of the beach. At the least those should be temporary, not left till they disintegrate and become even more unsightly.

Nothing I have seen along Beach Rd convinces me that they have any clue as to how to run a tourist resort town.

Perhaps I shouldn't complain. After all, the disgraceful condition of Pattaya is what keeps it from becoming over run with rich western tourists and other riff raff.

There was a perfectly good beach there at one time.

Then the clever people built a road up to it.

Then they built a path between the road and the beach.

Then they decided to widen the road, taking up more beach.

Then they widened the path into a boardwalk over what was left of the beach.

Now they are trying to replace the beach they have built over.

All makes perfect sense to me :omfg::clap2::cheesy:

i have watched and have photos of the entire resurfacing of the "coconut bar" and lane extension  of the road.

they did not encroach on the beach at all other than the wooden boardwalk extensions at the south end and by mike shopping mall steps.

the current works in the bay are to do with beach replacement or as they have called it "nourishment".

some of the vessels involved have been in the bay for over 12 months but the hold up has been due to problems in sourcing suitable sand.

i believe the sand once found will be brought in by barge and pumped or whatever to the beach area

LOL. The beach as it is now never existed in the past, as I understand it. It was man made when the Beach Rd was constructed on reclaimed land.

That is from people that were there before Pattaya town existed.

Sorry I didn't reply to that before, but no, the hoardings are left over from the drain construction. I guess they just couldn't be bothered to remove them. After all, why would they care?

That is where the ugly broken sandbags are, and no people are.

The dredger is now offshore of Wongamat where they are doing a lot of beach work.

the current hoardings up near the thai airways office turned up approx end of september/ beginning of october.

the drain construction was way before that.

the ugly sandbags have been removed or at least emptied

Are you saying the hoardings around the drain construction were removed and the current ones put up recently? They don't block access, which is what hoardings usually do.

As for the big sandbags, I saw them there two weeks ago. Anyone doesn't believe me can go look for themselves. I'm talking about the huge ones in the beach, not the little ones that used to be along the sea wall.

Yes and im saying that too ^. The current  sheet metal iron framed fence that extends from Thai Air office South to about Holiday Inn was  just recently put up in connection to beach restore project. And this fence does indeed block access. Fencing and trailer trash at South  end was associated with drain pipe project and beach restore project. Re sandbags: The 5 -6 deep sandbag  rows have been removed  except for some that have been rearranged. Was there today and unbelievably there is a whole new batch 50 - 100 of the giant sandbags being filled for replacement .

OK. When I was there 2 weeks ago the fence was very short and didn't have ends, so didn't block access. I thought it was left over from the drain project. Apologies.

Once again they show that they know nothing about running a tourist town. Putting up ugly fencing to block people from the walkway right at the start of high season takes some sort of strange thought process, IMO.

Of course they make no attempt to remove the unsightly broken concrete slabs around the headland, or do what they should and repair the walkway. The resort should have to pay, as it is they that encroached the beach in the first place.

I don't know why they don't build a sea wall out a ways and fill it in to make a permanent beach that is never under water. Have plenty of room for volley ball courts etc as well as the deck chairs.

That would make a vast improvement of the Pattaya beach for tourists.

Thats what they do when they have qualified engineers involved. After 2 years of that decaying sand bag mess - now they are going to just repeat it ???. Go take a look : There are about a dozen giant sandbags filled and lined up to go.

And stacks of new unfilled bags on beach walk.

I had a chuckle reading the terms "trailer trash."  Has a unique meaning in Amurica.  :whistling:

I was in the Beer Garden and noticed that the sand has really built up beside the big drain. Pity the not so clever people in charge don't just put barriers along the beach. The sand would soon build up without having to dredge it in.

that has gone too.

it does build up there from time to time but after heavy rain those drains (which are not normally in use) are opened and the sand is washed away.

right now there is no sand build up

they should be coping the beach at sanur on bali which is sand bagged with very large felt bags. seems to be a very good system and has provided a large beach area with the bags forming soft steps down to the water to go swimming. something would have to be done about the septic overflow leaching into the bay first of course.

Just a little wiki....almost all beach sand in the world come from Sahara.....

So something actually makes sense in Thailand.:w00t:
