Trouble with heaters less cars and the rains is that the windows tend to steam up.

So am thinking about a electric demister something like this:-

Lots of different models on E-Bay so was wondering if anyone had one could give some info on what model and does it work, is it worth getting one?

Thanks

I have never had a problem with any of my 'heater less cars' misting up simply because I always have to aircon switched on, and that keeps the windows clear. Try it, even when it is raining.

Well an early morning start in Phitsanulok province can be to chilly to have the air-con on and one of those little heaters would be just the trick I think.

Don't think that small heater will do enough to prevent condensation.

It would also need to point towards the windscreen and not towards

the cabin area.

Try opening the windows slightly as that balances the moist air outside with the

dryer air inside the car and put the fan on towards the screen in defrost

mode without recirculation on.

Remember that condensation only forms when there's a substantial

difference between moist warm air and cool dry air coming in to

contact with one another.

"Dmaxdan" Don't know about your motor but on mine the aircon airflow only comes out of vents in the footwell and from the dash vents directed into your face.

There are no vents for airflow directly to the windscreen, as would be the demister option on a car with a heater, so while having the aircon on would eventually demist the screen it takes too long and makes the car uncomfortably cold.

"Sotsira"  Yes it's only a small fan heater but it's mounted on the dash pointing directly at the screen so in theory it should work, just trying to find out if it actually does what it says on the box.

Agree condensation is the problem but when you have a car full of people it's kinda impractical to ask them all to stop breathing and radiating body heat while you turn the aircon up till the windows clear.

They don't seem to like it - Maybe something lost in the translation. :shock1:

If you have door visors fitted on your car then try opening the windows an inch

when it's raining and turn the a/c control to outside airflow instead of recirculation,

together with the warmest a/c temp setting.

I find that this works for me.

My Triton is the same, there are actual slots that run along the top of the dash, but they have blanks under the slot that would prevent any air coming through. Anyone know the reason behind being unable to direct air onto the windscreen?

I believe those slots along the top of the dash are for the demister option when a heater is installed. With no heater those slots are not needed.

I do think if some aircon flow could be directed through those slots it would have some demisting effect.

In the past I have though about the possibility of rigging up something to get some of the aircon flow through those slots, Something like the flexible washing machine waste pipe would do, but that is a project for another day - perhaps

I've got a Ford Everest and the windscreeen demister is standard. Press the demister button and it directs air at the screen and increases the temperature using the climate control

same goes for Suzuki SX4/Crossover. The Demist buttton overrides everything, to direct aircon air to the screen

oh, about the 'demister', as per in the OP:

  • they do drag quite a lot of power, for the small amount of effective hot air delivered
  • take care to not connect/disconnect while it's switch is ON, as you will likely blow the fuse of your cigarette lighter socket
  • they can be rather noisy, because while on the dash, it will be close to your face (the unit's vibration is even more annoying than the noise)
  • I have considered mounting the unit, totally within the dashboard ducting, at the point where the air comes in trough the firewall from the plenum chamber, at the spot where the fresh/recycle air mixing is done.

My screen vents are covered, real pain in the ass...Doubt there are tubes installed to my vents as the control knob does not have a screen option...

PS. The thingy you are talkin about sounds like a good idea...Oddly they chose to fit a heated rear screen that never mists up in my ride...

Hi All, you could try Alibaba Express, for the unit you are looking to buy, sent by China Airmail, free shipping to Thailand, can pay with credit card or pay pal.

Be interested to know if bought on e-bay which shipper they use and whether you have to pay import tax, China air mail never had it to pay.
