Has anyone purchased a Yosh system here in Thailand? What about the Yosh slip on? I am in the market for one and trying to gauge if it is easier to buy here or bring one back when I visit the US in a few months.

Thanks in advance

The official distributor in Thailand is Dirt Shop, they located in Bangkok in Sukhumvit Soi 77... of look them up on internet. Be careful I seen some fake Yoshimura for smaller capacity bikes

I have the R11 (TIS approved) slip-on. It feels just right, not too noicy but at least i can hear my own bike at idle now. I wouldn't want anything more noicy on a parallell-twin.

If you choose to either buy one abroad or get a full-system, make sure to keep some tea-money with you at all times when you ride through cities, exthausts without the TIS-stamp are illegal.

I would just buy the exhaust in Thailand from the official dealer/distributor. For the difference in money you not have import it yourself.

For example a Yoshimura RS2 Stainless steel slip-on for a Kawasaki KLX250 cost at Dirt Shop 15,900 THB all in (cash and carry), the same slip-on exhaust I found online the cheapest for US$ 360 (say 11,715 THB) that is without import duty and shipping cost… Plus the slip-on sold in the US doesn’t have a TIS engraving that every police officer knows….

In the end the price difference is a few hundred baht, and buying in Thailand you get the product in hand at the moment you turn over your money… call me old fashion, but when I spend +10k I like cash-and-carry over online shopping in which you always have a few hurdles like Thai customs, shipping damage… late delivery… etc etc

Thanks Richard  I will take a look at the place you referenced.

the last pipe that I had shipped over from Europe, it arrived in 2 days, with Kerry Express. Cost was about 2000thb I think. The tax and customs etc was only about 600-700b.

Ask them to mark it as a used gift. Addressed to a Thai, your partner or whatever. Mine wasn't but still was so cheap.

It made it about 40% cheaper than buying the model in Thailand.

You also know that it isn't a well made copy. You will never know that when buying off a Thai vendor. Just look at the fake Heineken factory in Thailand on youtube.

I’m not sure if the “Ask them to mark it as a used gift.” is a good idea, some used motorcycle parts are banned from import into Thailand. Also the official rule is that a motorcycle exhaust system / muffler must be TIS certified. Maybe I’m paranoid, but I see two reasons why I would never see my already paid exhaust system, as the customs confiscated it…

Contacted The Dirt Shop. Thanks for the contact. They sell Thai Government approved pipes but they are a bit pricey. I can get the same slip on Yosh for about 1/2 in the US off ebay.  $370 versus $720.  I could argue 20% more not having to deal with headaches and it being Thai DOLT approved but double is pretty steep.

Again though, I do appreciate the reference.

After years and years on Thai motorcycle forums, and lots and lots of friends involved in motorbikes here, I have never.... ever .... ever.... come across any reports of that.

Fakes sold as originals in Thailand though.......

What headaches?

In 10 years I have never had any issues with a pipe for not having the TIS stamp on it.

If there does happen to be a road block, and they pick on it. What is it going to be... a 500 baht fine?

Better that than 10,000 baht extra and it's probably fake.
