Guinness World Records records world largest Thai national flag in Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI, 1 December 2016 (NNT) - The largest Thai national flag flown from a flag pole was achieved by Chiang Rai province, verified by Guinness World Records.

Advisor to the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) Gen. Amornrit Phaetcharoen presided over the ceremony to validate the world's largest Thai national flag by Guinness World Records in Chiang Saen district of Chiang Rai province.

The inauguration ceremony included a religious ceremony performed by 32 monks from Thailand and neighboring countries. The event was attended by over 1,000 people, where participants observed a moment of silence to grieve over the passing of His late Majesty before singing the national anthem together.

The flag measured 34 meters in width and 63 meters in length, and was produced to commemorate the first centennial anniversary of Thailand’s national flag, as well as to create a new tourist attraction in the province, which is part of the Golden Triangle. The location will house a national flag museum that will provide knowledge on the history of the Thai national flag in the future.
