Bringing back memories of March 2010....

Thanks for that link Rooo!

Believe it was March 2011 we had the flooding with more than 150 centimeter (that's 1,500 mm) downpour in less than two weeks, which together with wind and high waves stopped ferries and planes. Samui and her sisters ran out of food – even Spam was taken from the shelf in the supermarkets, except one last tin can with dents – and lots of stranded tourists, in the news they talked about thousands waiting in the airport, that wished one thing only, to get out of "Paradise".

Have a video from our trip to airport the morning that the rain stopped and traffic was expected to be reopened. The departure terminal was full of waiting people, and they were all on "stand-by", as all reservations were cancelled – my girlfriend needed to travel up North for an important business meeting, and from her Frequent Flyer bonus points we had managed to buy a Blue Ribbon 1st class tickets out on a flight that morning, which had been cancelled when we came to the airport. However her 1st Class ticket gave her priority in the stand-by row as one of the first in-line, so she got on-board the first flight out of the island about noon. The best part was, that when she arrived in Bangkok a kind ground hostes called her and said, they were so sorry for not having a plane with 1st class seats out of Samui, so they excused and would like to compensate her ticket by giver her all the points back...

Thanks for weather forecast Rooo :wai:, but not for our memories shall be copied for a repeat...:crying:

Video-frames: 1) Bo Phut Ring Road; 2) Stand-by queue started outside the airport departure building; 3) Some folks had been camping for days inside the terminal to get out on first flights.

Thanks Sticky! ^ That's a lot of rain!

It's not stopped all night for me, and looks like set in for the the day(?)

It must be getting desperate in some areas, perhaps members could give flood reports...

And to think one of the mods closed another Samui thread on the wet weather recently..."because the rainny season is now over."

I looked for that, but this seems to be the only one, which was started back in early December ... another about conditions in Lamai, is still open!

Perhaps just use this thread for current reports!

I am beginning to wish I was back in Sunny Burma! My garden is now a river and the road to my house probably impassable! :shock1:

Actually Jim, it was about all the rubbish on the island, and how the heavy winds and rain are washing it all up on the beaches.

I haven't heard any sirens yet, presumably because the roads are impassable.

Schools are closed. We purchased new umbrellas yesterday which might prove useful if we need anything from 7/11, Tesco express or market.

If you see an airborne teddy in Maenam you'll know my power has gone off! :)

I hear that the area around Napalan Temple  (spelling?) Area of Lomprayah Maenam ferry is pretty bad....

Umbrellas, I don't know where to buy, PhetPhet..... ... wading boots would be useful too.  Water up to thighs just down the road from me...

I hid the rubbish link we don't need the trolls to add to that.

Just came back from Makro.

Ring road Chaweng has the biggest flooding I have seen in that area, it's basically a river one meter deep.

Currents from the sois sweepes away all motorbike attempts, almost lifted my carrabean jeep.

Some sedans standing middle of road with water over  the hood.

Went by the lake on way back, meter deep water at the roundabout, lakeroad passible but lake is raising fast.

One meter deep at laemdin as usual.

If you can, stay home., take care.

My wife purchased several in Nation market yesterday @ THB 250 each and is test-firing a large PINK one in Maenam as I type :)

They had cheaper ones too but they weren't as big or strong.

(In this weather the colour wouldn't bother me either!)

I just had my flights canceled today (even though I saw one taking off like 5pm and another one just 30 minutes ago). I rebooked for Saturday night. Anyone seen the forecast? Will I be okay?

Have to drive to Chaweng tomorrow to pick up my refund, lets see how this goes.

This is crazy... the average rainfall for January is 90mm and for December it's 150mm. We already had a day with 90mm this December, no flooding in Lamai though. Today in Lamai everything was under water, even with the fancy new canal. Water at the beach is almost black from all the debris.

No rain on my roof right now, but I live on a slope so not fear  for the massive water comming down the mountain.

I spoke to an old friend of  mine  Samui  Expat since 1997, he told me stories that he heard.

Drought,... Chaweng lake empty.

Flood....Soi had ngam, used to be  the beach road because that is the highest water when the next typhoon comes.
