Epoxy finish for Concrete Pool Decking

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a large concrete decking around my pool, which is brush finished so it is rough and non slip.

I am thinking of 'tidying' it up by using some form of paint or epoxy finish on it.

Anyone have any ideas on products here in Thailand that could be used, I've tried asking in a couple of shops but no success. I was thinking Epoxy with some kind of added non slip agent, do they have that here?

Thanks for any help tips.

hardware house do a 2 pack epoxy paint, i think it was a Japanese brand suitable for outside, lots of colours off the top of my head it was high 2000 baht for about 3.8 litres.

Have you considered tiling the decking instead of painting? Nicer finish, non-slip. Ours very light grey which reflect the heat and are cool to walk on barefoot.

I'm doing a pool this year. Are the tiles big chunky like sandstone or slate, or special tiles?

we went for sandstone to top pool, slate finish and light grey tile for the decking. we added red block paving under the roof to break things up a bit.

floor tiles were from global house I think they are bathroom floor tiles :-)

The tiles look great.

Unfortunately I would be looking at a tiled area of around 500sqm.... so thinking Tiles would be very costly.

Went around HomePro and ThaiWasadu and although they have some epoxy they do not have the anti slip that can be added.

Thinking might just go for paint for now, give it a half decent finish look....any ideas on outside concrete paint ?

Wow 500m2. By my reckoning that would cost around THB450,000

Tiles were THB 700 per m2 and THB 150 per m2 to lay. Cost around THB 70,000.

We are repainting the house at the moment and I was thinking of floor paint non-stop for the garage. Used it in the workshop back in the UK but not seen it here yet.

Try David B suggestion about TOA. Failing that go for a small tin of MATT epoxy floor paint and add some sharp sand, mix and apply to small area, see how it goes.

Once you paint it you will be repainting it forever. The heat, the humidity, the heavy rain and sun's ultraviolet light combined with the lower quality products here mean that painted finishes don't last long. Even less so in high wear applications.

Tiles, Stonewash or pavers would be a longer lasting and require far less maintenance in the long run. It's cheaper to do the job once and do it to last.

ace1 how big is your pool and why is the decking area so large? Just asking, not criticising.

Got any pics?

Water run-off must be massive in the rainy season.

Pdaz sounds like he has experience of floor paint and whilst it is the much cheaper option in the short term paint aint cheap.

Could you reduce the deck size, replace with lawn and tile a smaller area?

That was my thoughts, that much concrete would also be a huge "heat sink" soaking up the heat in the hot months and holding heat for a long time.

Thanks chaps.

The pool will be approx 32m x 15/20m and the large 'decking' will be for seating etc. Building is still ongoing but getting closer to completion. Large covers for shade are now in down one side.

I hadn't really put much thought to the flooring as the brushed concrete looked great (and not slippy) but obviously with all the building going on it is starting to look worn already.

I didn't really want to use tiles and getting the right type of Epoxy around here is difficult, let alone someone to put it down.

Last thought would be laying the smooth small stones (gravel) for not slippy and easy to clean. But again, been looking around and not found anywhere that does them ( ทรายล้าง ). But I really have no idea on this either.

For water run  off I have a 10inch pipe down one side of the land.

Cheers,

PM me and I'll send pic if you want a look
