What every parent dreads - mother sees only daughter on CCTV getting on minivan before Chonburi disaster

CHONBURI: -- A mother watched in horror as her only daughter was captured on CCTV getting on the minivan involved in Monday's fiery crash in Chonburi.

 

Wimol Motphai's daughter Hathaiphat was one of 25 victims on the minivan and in a pick-up incinerated after the collision in Ban Bung, reports Thairath.

 

Wimol, 66, went to the minivan queue depot in front of Robinson's in Chanthaburi because she could just not accept that her beloved daughter had been taken from her.

 

But the heart rending scene on the screen confirmed her worst fears as she saw her daughter for the last time.

 

Wimol said that her daughter had come home for New Year to pay her respects and was returning to work in Nakorn Pathom.

 

In a heartfelt plea she called on all concerned to end the carnage involving minivans on the Thai roads.

 

The CCTV footage showed the driver of the minivan - Sumon Iamsombat, 64 - behaving normally. Thai Rath reported that he did not appear tired.

 

Meanwhile Pornsak Thaijiamaree, in charge of the minivan queue in Chantaburi, said that others who had relatives on the minivan could come and review the footage.

 

Many of the victims were unrecognizable after the accident.

 

Pornsak revealed that neither the van nor the staff had been checked according to regulations preceding the New Year period.

Since we are not dead, we certainly don't expect to die today.  So we keep complaining, fighting, getting mad, etc....... and we all make choices.  I've been in about 10 high-speed vans, KNOWING I'm an idiot for getting in one, but a few are last-minute and some is simply to save just a few thousand baht.  

 

so be nice to someone today, it might just be your last

 

and if not, well you are a better person for it.

What's the worst gut wrenching is that if you go to any major road and highway

you will see those vans and trucks speeding as usual as if nothing happened

like a water off the duck's back, talking to those drivers is nothing more

than a voice in the wilderness....

law-enforcement, health checks, driving regulations, traffic signs, traffic laws.......whatever you come with it's always by-passed. 

The only thing that might work and which is easy to enforce are 90kmph speed limitors incl. black boxes, checked and sealed by the authorities. 

At a police check, check the seal and read the black box. 

Violations will result in scrapping the vehicle......just wait and see.

 

Of course tourbuses can be included.

 

Too much of a rule......in a country where ignorant <deleted> are the rulers these kind of measures are necessary.

The real sad thing is ,   this tragedy will just be

viewed by most drivers and riders of Thailand as just bad luck !!!!!!!!!!

there will be no blame  and no care, other than the families involved in this.

Rumours are, and a friend og mine noticed..that some minivans use 

nitrous oxide

to be able to drive up tp 150 mph......No wonder..

Ho ho ho, the police was very active during the 7 days of carnage...they sit 24hrs in tents along the roads busy on their notebooks...and they even didn't have airconditioning.

when are passengers going to wake up and tell their driver to slow down and stop driving like a maniac. Not one, I'm talking about every passenger in that van. It may save your life. Remember the statement from years ago, " We're not going to take it". It;s time to bring that thought back. Let's start helping each other stay alive from senseless antics.

No one knows when and how they will or their lobed ones will die.

Even if their daughter is only 16  years old

i am sorry for that mother and her loss.

I am not lieing or bragging, but honestly I am coming up in 2017 for my 71st year birthday  in October.

And honestly, I still am able to remember 4 times in that almost 71 years that I had a lucky escape from death.

Life is strange.

Mini buses should have their top speed limited. Not gonna prevent all acidents but could reduce the carnage. They should be banned from the right hand lane unless turning right. And most importantly the drivers should attend mandatory advanced training on how to actually blood y drive..

Guess transport companies could be forced to forfeit a sizeable cash bond if their drivers or vans were found to be at fault. Hitting these idiots hard in their pocketvis something they do understand.

The most dangerous part of these minivans are the LGP/NGV tanks INSIDE the buses.
The slightest bump in front of the rear of the minivan can cause the pipes to break and ignite a fire.
LPG/NGV tanks inside minvans or buse should not be allowed.

It might happen on short trips but will never happen on longer journeys because none of the passengers want their 10 hour trip to take any extra time.  

People want to get where they are going as quickly (and cheaply) as possible.     

Keep in mind that as horrific as this accident was, there are thousands of van trips every day and night all over Thailand and the odds of being in an accident are actually pretty low.
