Rawai Vehicle Testing Station "Shut" For 3 Months

Anyone know what happened? The younger chubby guy said he couldn't test vehicles for 3 months - sounded like a sanction or penalty. whistling.gif

Anyone know of a nearer one than in Phuket Town?

I used to go to one in Patiphat road, just south of Rang Hill traffic lights.

Not so many test places any more on the south end of the island. I go to the place past the Daorung Wittaya School traffic lights on the left side.

There are a couple of workshops along the road running parallel to the canal towards the Phuket Provincial Land Transport Office.

That's where I went today- 3 vehicles and 3 motorbikes in front of me (they just pile everyone in the queue and it works) - took around 45 minutes including the wait. B200 and sorted.

I went to the Patiphat road Vehicle Testing Station today as I needed to go to Mae Luan road, and as soon as I drove in I knew I was out of luck - the rolling road was replaced by a relatively new looking strip of concrete. sad.gif

The guy explained that they'd moved and tried to explain where and after he said straight down to the three way junction I said "near Daorung school" he said yes, so that's the one I went to. In fact, the younger bloke running it is the same guy who used to be at Patiphat road.

Quick service and no problems found:

Inspection: 200 baht

Insurance:       0 baht (already paid my insurance company 900+VAT for it)

Yearly Tax: 900 baht

Service:       110 baht (to go to Transport office and do the paperwork)

Sticker:            5 baht

I gather the couple running the Rawai testing centre were involved in a serious road accident .

Incidentally, I went there yesterday to see if they were open yet and they arranged for someone to take my scooter to another test centre.

I was talking about this today to a friend and he said they were both killed. Very sad. RIP.

For the future, there is a testing station in Chalong. It is located on the east side of Chao Fah East, almost opposite the traffic lights were the road behind Wat Chalong joins. It's about 20 metres south of the junction.

Never noticed that one - must've driven past it hundreds of times.

I'll get my bike done there in June. I might try to find out what happened to the old owner - depends on the younger guy's demeanour. If he still looks upset, I won't ask.
