MOSCOW (Reuters) - The Kremlin said on Thursday it hoped President Vladimir Putin and President-elect Donald Trump would get along and that there would be more mutual respect in U.S.-Russia relations than there was under the Obama administration.

Addressing reporters on a conference call, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was responding to questions about how the Kremlin assessed Trump's news conference on Wednesday.

"Moscow is genuinely hoping that our presidents will get along," said Peskov.

"At least Trump has spoken of his readiness for dialogue. This doesn't mean there's a readiness to agree about everything with each other. That is hardly possible and Moscow isn't expecting that, but dialogue is grounds for hope and could help us find a way out of many complex situations."

Peskov said however that the Kremlin did not agree with views on Crimea expressed by Secretary of State nominee Rex Tillerson on Wednesday, who said Moscow’s 2014 annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula was illegal.

The entire world community says the invasion was illegal.  Only Russia says it wasn't.  Perhaps they could leave Georgia and Moldova also?

Tillerson seems to be taking a hard stance with regards to this and the South China Sea.

Sorry,  but any of these prospective cabinet heads are going to play to their audience, just like the politician who nominated them did.  The goal is to win the nomination, not follow through on any promises made to win

What is Congress going to do I , once confirmed and in charge, Tillerson changes his stand ?

Yes, that's what scares me.  Tillerson could be just like Trump.  Say whatever is needed to win the position, then backtrack after you're in power.

Exactly. Tillerson is just saying what Congress wants to hear in order for him to get in. Follow the oil money! Exxon is sitting on 500 Billion Dollars of oil contracts in Russia that they can't get to due to US sanctions. Just wait until Tillerson gets in and gets these sanctions removed. If you think Tillerson is not going to benefit from this, then you don't know how those in power know how to hide money (see Panama Papers).

Here is a rather long (20 minutes) piece on what I stated above. If you fast forward halfway (10 minutes or so), you will see how Exxon invested big time into Russia and got screwed by US Sanctions. Exxon is waiting with baited breath to get Tillerson positioned as Sec of State. You can bet Putin also wants to have this happen as well.

Exxon needs US policy change to cash in on big bet on Russia

It is all a show folks! The con-man PEOTUS, Tillerson and Putin are playing everyone for big oil money. It will happen. Big money talks, bullies and gets things done.

As was the case between Putin and Obama and his predecessors.

Thing is there are many more under the Republicans including Trump who has interested in Russia or Russian affiliates. Which is why people are raising red flags, quick frankly who are pro trump supporters so annoyed by it? You guys are already screaming about Clintons being corrupted, imagine if Clintons has a vast business empire like Trump, I can't imagine who other nasty stuff would come out of the republican side.

Wasn't it Bush that tried to warm relations with Putin?  Didn't work.  He's only interested in a few things.  Staying in power, increasing Russia's standing in the world order..and getting rich.

The Seduction of George W. Bush

How the president of good and evil bromanced Vladimir Putin. And how a warm friendship turned to ice.

...............

Bush regaled his guest with stories of aggravating private dealings with Putin that underscored their growing rift. Bush was astonished that Putin had tried to influence him by offering to hire a close friend of the president’s and he found Putin’s understanding of the world disconnected from reality. “He’s not well informed,” Bush groused. “It’s like arguing with an eighth grader with his facts wrong.”
