Sadly you seem to be living in an area where the costs for foreigners are well and truly inflated.

I do not know whether you are living there permamently or not but if you are not it may be cheaper to move somewhere else for the month or so before.  You will probably find it a lot more affordable.

Although this may not be what you want to hear do not forget Thai mothers have been having babies for centuries and the Government hospital may be a lot cheaper but the care is good.

Sheryl should be able to give you some advise.

No, the costs for foreigners are not inflated. The OP has a choice of hospitals, some more expensive than others.
At OP, check out Mission hospital. Private but a lot cheaper than PIH and BPH.

Mission is always busy with Maternity and pre-natal when I'm in there- seems popular with fairly affluent looking Thai ladies. Phuket International quote B36.900 for a 'normal' childbirth and B49,900 for a C section on the promotions bit of their website- bung a fair bit on top of that for Bangkok Hosp. I use Mission for a variety of things and have never personally found them wanting.

You asked about the best, not the cheapest nor the one furthest away in Bannork land.

If you're in Phuket the best is the one I recommended.

Had child born in state hospital for the cost of 30 baht.

Best service ever , was just like private with a VIP room 800 baht per night.

Mates father went private here in BKK done loads of dosh then transfered to Rama,

Fellas on the mend.

Private health care here and paying loads does not necessarily mean the best care

Even cheaper to have it at home.

However, some like to have the best available facilities and access to the best doctors in the event of complications.

Always surprised when people mistake the word best for cheapest, on this forum.

Can you guys share your experiences with these hospitals?

Bit surprised at your name change!

I'm a regular customer at BPH currently under the care of 4 specialists. I'll be seeing 2 on Wednesday.

However, I'm not a patient at, and have never been inside the maternity clinic. My recommendation is more about my knowledge of the quality of the doctors  in the half dozen clinics I have experience with.  One of these is adjacent to maternity and I have often observed that facility from outside.

This hospital can be very expensive, particularly if they are dealing with a tourist with insurance. I'm self insured, a local resident and member of one of the hospital's discount schemes. On the occasions I have been an inpatient I have paid, for a private room with meals and nursing service, about the equivalent of a medium range hotel room. (Bht3,000+ from memory)

As others have pointed out there are plenty of cheaper alternatives if that's what you are seeking, and some of BPH's doctors do also work in their own practices and at government hospitals.

You'll find here like in the UK ,
Doctors that work for the NHS/government also work in the private sector.

Also most nursing homes here do not have their own doctors.

They pay them to come in after work.

Not every government hospital here is the pits take Rama for example.

Any of you who'd given birth in mission hospital, phuket international or bangkok hospital phuket? Either relatives, wife or personal experience? Pls share your experience. I am for sure to give birth here in phuket in couple of weeks and still undecided as this is my first time without family around. Good or bad experience is alright. Thanks

My wife had both our daughters at Bangkok Phuket Hospital. A Dr Supajhit ( or something close to that ) Nothing but praise for he whole process both times and not really that expensive either. Great rooms and the nursery staff are excellent.

At Vachira they are; they said that they charge ~3x the normal price if you are a foreigner when I was asking about a cataract op.

After researching around I went to the govt hospital in Phang-Nga and got it done - service and care were absolutely superb. Everybody spoke enough English to make exactly clear to me what was going to happen at each step of the surgery (I don't trust my Thai language enough to deal with medical stuff) and I am blessed with binocular vision again at less than a third of the price quoted to me by Vachira.

Thanks, another reason not to go there.
