Can you Rent Motor Scooter at LTO to take Test

Recommended Posts

Hey Guy's trying to figure out how to take my Motorcycle test in Pattaya without having purchased a motorcycle.  Do they rent any at the LTO or directly outside for you to take the test with?  I know i could probably rent one or buy one and drive there unlicensed but would rather not do it that way.

Thanks

Didn't see any rentals when I was getting my licence. Did see people borrowing bikes from other attendees tho so you might be able to wing it relying on the kindness of others. Absurd situation I know but riding your own bike there probably safest (?) bet...

You can take your own bike, rent from one of the many shops in Pattaya and drive it there or  " borrow" one  from someone ( not an official just member of public) at the Transport department for a small fee.

The first 2 options are better as it will give you time to get used to the bike before taking the "gruelling"  :-)  practical test.

If you really don't want to run the risk of getting stopped by police without licence then you can rent a pickup truck

load up the rented bike into pickup to drive there and back..but I think that  might be taking things a bit too far.

There is a small chance of being stopped on the way and a maybe bigger chance of having an accident

with the accident being much more of a worry than the fine for not having a licence.

Any idea what the fine usually runs for no license for farrang?

I think I remember the maximum as being 2000 baht  ( increased in 2016)

a few years ago I was stopped and and as I didn't have a bike license at the time they wanted 400 baht   my wife went to the police station and bargained with them at the fine desk  down to 200 baht.

When you go to the DLT  to do the test  remember to dress "properly"    that means not shorts and sandles, string vest and no helmet  !

long trousers and long sleeved top, gloves, shoes and a full face crash helmet  will also often get you past police check points when they are looking for easy targets...I suppose they reason that if you wear protection your are more likely to have everything else in order and its not worth stopping you.

Good luck.

1000 baht for no licence

2000 baht for letting someone without a licence drive your vehicle

2000 baht no tax

2000 baht no licence plate

400 baht for speeding

20,000 baht for drunk driving

come on you know that's not entirely true...even if its an official check point and the fine paid at police station with receipt

the fine is very often "negotiable"  and obviously a Thai would be a better barterer than a foreigner/tourist.

100% true in my instance, have never paid over the odds  accept the drink driving, I slipped some notes and was let out the back door whilst the Thai's went off to the cells.

Errrr,... well you kind of just proved my point about things being "negotiable"

You was talking about road side issued tickets, get done drink driving there is no roadside ticket.

Just rent a bike in the city and drive out there, the chances you will get stopped by the cops are like 1% . And if you do you can afford the penalty.

I rented a bike from directly opposite the office. Many people rent a bike there to take their test. Drive there in my car. Make sure you go early as they get rented out quickly

Best way to do it, no insurance will pay it you ride without a license, so it can cost you dearly if something happens.

Unbelievable that one poster was telling us about getting busted for drunk riding! <deleted>... man are you serious? A motor bike taxi can take you home cheaply when you are over the limit and you can even have a beer on the ride if you want. You are endangering others when you drive/ride when over the limit, shame on you, grow up man.
