This sounds like they are on the right path. The burn ban last year was at least partially effective, with some areas cooperating fully. Also I am encouraged to see that they are coordinating with Myanmar, since they are major contributor to the smoke here.

Cautiously optimistic.

They can coordinate what they like but until they come down really hard on the perpetrators then it will never be eradicated.   Too many people in high places own land and will do whatever they want no matter what anyone says.

Uh DUH! It is the most polluted part of Thailand. Unless they seriously want to compete with Beijing and New Delhi for most polluted areas of Asia, something has to be done. And I believe it should be draconian, drastic, and serious. Such as three warnings to framers caught burning. 1st warning- 100,000 baht fine. 2nd warning - 750,000 baht fine, 500 hours of community service, and a warning that if you do not comply upon your 3rd warning, the consequences will be drastic. 3rd warming. Total, and absolute confiscation of your land, permanently. Do you think word would get around? Do you think change might be possible, after other farmers hear about that kind of loss to their neighbor?

Sometimes, either you are serious or you are not. This government is perhaps the least serious administration in the past several decades. Time to start instituting some real policy, if they want to accomplish anything at all, in their remaining time in office, or they will be remembered as absolute do nothings.
