PHUKET: -- Governor Chockchai Dejamornthan in a high-profile press conference yesterday (Feb 2) publicly denounced allegations that high-ranking officials had taken bribes from illegal “hotels”.

Speaking at the “Phuket Incident Commander Centre” at Provincial Hall yesterday afternoon, Gov Chockchai explained that he had been informed of the accusations, but he did not identify who had made the allegations or how the claims had become public.

“I have not received any reports of high-ranking officials taking bribes from illegal hotels,” said Gov Chockchai, who is the island’s highest-ranking official.

“If any of them do, I will force them to face the law” he said.

However, he did not clarify specifically what the allegations accused officials of taking bribes for, such as as accepting bribes to avoid being added to the list of hotels to face further investigation, or bribes paid in order to start renting properties in the first place.

The accusations came as the Jan 31 deadline expired for all operators who rent out properties for periods of less than 30 days that their properties to register with provincial authorities as part of the government campaign to bring such illegal “hotels”, including condo owners, into the fold under the Hotel Act.

Yep, must have trained that 'body language' in front of a mirror quite extensively ... pretty perfect, looking at that pic.

Of course things like these never happen(ed), nor do they take handouts from venues open much longer than allowed ...

Totally Lala-land, either delusional or in bed together, take yer pick ...

People should understand that Thai custom dictates that if someone kindly offers a "gift" it would be impolite not to accept their heart-felt benevolence. Everyday examples of that tradition can be found not just in public office but in all walks of life throughout Thailand.

- he then went on to strongly refute the claim that water is wet and vowed to sue anyone who stated otherwise

Ah, that's how it works..., if you don't receive a report then they are not doing it.

Perish the thought............

They will face the law. Especially if they havent been sharing it around at the agreed amounts.

And you know that how?? Oh they told you so well then they and you must right.

There should be some kind of award for making statements like that with such a straight face and positive hand positioning.

So they are to start inspecting those hotels that registered before the deadline.

What happens to the places that didn't register?

Have you considered he may be telling the Truth?

Maybe, maybe not
