If the driver went through a red light the insurers wouldn't pay out one satang. Why should they? There is no insurance that covers breaking the law.

Feel for the kids. But must state this quote about insurance is 100 percent wrong information. Of course insurance pays when drivers run a red light or break the law. Please do not post information that is contrary to the laws of every developed nation on the planet.

The insurance company will pay for the damages in this case and if the bus owner does not have enough insurance coverage the owners of the company and all their assets like buses will be sold to pay the damages. These kids just need a good lawyer to get compensated properly.

There are many junctions with traffic lights in Pattaya  that when you approach them minivans in particular dash to the left side lane as there is a ( If left lane can go red notice ).

But NOT ALL have this preference on the red, though.

As the Thais would believe, if only one has it, then they all should have it , and if it doesnt, I dont care anyway, Ive seen and used it so often, so I will do it.

Another stupid, murderous traffic management scheme the same as the U-turns.

Always look both directions at any junction for 10 seconds at least after the light changes to green. If you dont - we can all see the resulting carnage here .

God willing those two kids will be OK.

I have no other option but to drive car on long routes and motorbike for nearby places as it is a necessity.  However I do consider one thing that to be very careful while crossing major intersections and not to break any so called unenforced rule/law.

I know Thailand is not a welfare oriented country for foreigners as compared to UK and civilized nations.  Either this Thai system will rip you apart financially and psychologically or kick you out of the country. Your life is in God's hand. But God also says to be careful as this body is gifted to us by God to protect our self.

Lastly my prayers and wishes are with the kids and their parents. My God bless them speedy recovery.

Thanks. Insurance companies are notorious for trying to get out of paying anything, so to actually support someone breaking the law and guilty of causing serious injury very much surprises me. If it's true.

I thought Russian government did, that is why so many Russians use medical in Thailand.

Shocking video.

Deliberately running a red light is akin to attempted murder (if the kids survive).

The bus driver and his company should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

You are wrong there... social media and public opinion is changing this.

If there is enough public outcry the police have no option but to act.

Oh Please....get a grip.... Swept under the carpet like everything else here....

Surely bus company's insurance will pay the children's hospital bill? If they do not have any insurance, must surely bus company owners pay for it. If they don't have money, sell the bus.

And if the bank owns the bus throw the management under the bus.

True... I remember that story.

But there are others too where social media outcries have resulted in action.

Taxi driver fined Bt1,000 for calling passenger ‘whore’

Video: Thai driver takes the biscuit for mad driving - but gets his just desserts!

Video: Nasty Bangkok taxi driver caught on tape threatening a female passenger is fined and banned for a month

I just hope that this story gets the attention that it deserves.

What a needless waste of youthful lives.

Yes, I suppose you are right,,,

but what about that your ung girl on the motorway no Licence on the mobile , kills 9 people...got off Scot Free.

then the Red Bull guy, swanning about Singapore...

loads more ......

Surely the tour bus has insurance. By all reports, he jumped a red light, so fault would seem to be clear.

Why shoud the father get slapped with the bill? That IS what insurance is for, right?

My heart goes out to him and I hope the kids both make a full recovery.

I also hope the driver gets the book thrown at him.

I shall be going to the bank to donate, as this is worthy, even though it should not be necessary.

The bus is undoubtedly insured but probably only for damage to other vehicles and passenger indemnity. It is quite likely the insurance will cover the damage to the motor cycle but not the people riding it. That would be the bus drivers responsibility. I hope I'm wrong so if any of you know better please tell all.

Naive tourists don't know how bad driving is over here and many pay with their lives....

i wish there was more negative coverage on the risks of driving here...plenty of evidence and examples...

needs to be covered from many angles and sources....

Indeed, no need for sending the bill to the victims if the bus ran red light....

just share the video of the accident and shout out loud...

The bus company insurance or the company self have to pay the bill. No one other.

It states that the children have "closed craniocerebral injuries and brain hemorrhages with extensive bruising".

If those are the injuries I would rather have seen a photo with the helmets left on the children for protection, only to be removed from them after arriving at hospital & initial inspection by a qualified doctor!!

Can you share that video?  I live just down the street from that light and see these tour buses passing on the left, in the shoulder.  Running red lights (I've seen 2 do this in the past few days only).  Try going past Nong Nooch Gardens around 5PM.  They just go right into the road.  I've seen some really nasty accidents there.  All it would take is a light.

Right there at Huay Yai is a police box.  They do nothing but collect fines from scooters from time to time.  Worthless.

I won't ride my scooter on Suk around here.  Too many accidents.  Too many vehicles going at very high speed.  Too crazy.

I wish the best for these poor kids.  One big reason, as you say, to not ride a scooter here on roads like this.  Just too dangerous.

Couldn't agree more craigt3365.  I live in Najomtien close to that junction. That part of Suk road is just crazy dangerous particularly at junctions and U- turns.

If the Bus driver  and  operator are not able too.

And if the Government did get some moral guts and paid up maybe they will be inclined to kick the police up the backside  and make them go out and check the insurance of tour busses.

The bus company as well. Presumably they had 3rd party insurance.

Attempted murder - running a red light but here a quick talking to and on your way

This place is sick - sick in the head and the police do nothing

Solution Stay home and never use a motor bike

Drive like a snail and keep your fingers crossed

Never drive after dark

The bus company as well.

Most likely nobody will pay.

BTW, and I'm sure everyone can confirm it if he is riding around in Jomtien. Intersection trappaya road / Beach Road Jomtien. There is a traffic light. Very often people get honked by cars and busses when they wait for green light to turn right in direction to the beach. Many just can't wait. It's unreal.

I never jump a red light. It's not worth. Imo, there is no effort from the police to improve road safety.

I got hit on my motorbike full riding gear full face helmet and not a cheap helmet like most wear and an armored riding jacket.

My face was fractured I got 20 stitches above my eye and my arm was amputated inside the skin. I was not allowed to leave the hospital to go to another hospital to see a specialist for surgery without my bill being paid in full.

I'm sure the kids bill will easyily be over a million baht.
