The only one that seem to follow the local vernacular is probably the 'Tee Din' for land office

 

The south pattaya/3rd road 'Sue Sarn' 'Communication' was either Mityon or Tony's before...

It's probably named for the CAT telecom round the corner... but there is a Soi Sophon named after the cable TV, which is quite communicationy... 

 

 

 

Also I think there is a new sign for Central road's big C Extra for the junction with Arunothai which is now named after a school or something which I can't recall despite going pass the sign everyday....

 

granted, it probably simplify things like police's radio and helps ambulance service

 

 

Some of the already used official street names is even more confusing like Soi Bonkot where Bonkot means lotus... you'd thing that'd be the official name of Soi Buakhao (White Lotus) right?

When I was in the Peace Corps, I was with the Ministry of Agriculture, Grom Patana Tee Din (land development department), soil and water conservation branch (office?).

After all these years of thinking it was ThAppraya, I now notice from these signs that it is spelt with sara e (เ)

But the current Thai name for CAT does not contain this Thai word.

I am not certain but it's possible that it formerly had a name with "sue sa(r)n". Later renamed?

 

Cemetery has a different Thai script and sounds different (sù-săan ).

Difficult without picture (Thai script).

 

Phonetically it sounds like "diploma", "academic degree".

But what sense could this make?

 

On the other hand it could also be a "given name". Maybe some former "celebrity/major"?
