BANGKOK, 8 March 2017 (NNT) - The government is planning to transform Thailand into a major aviation center of South Asia.

Revealing after a recent meeting on aviation chaired by the prime minister, Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana said the meeting agreed to increase the capacities of Thai airports and uplift the aviation industry, paving the way for Thailand to become the aviation hub of South Asia.

According to him, the development plan which complies with the Eastern Economic Corridor project will be carried out by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Industry, and security agencies. In addition, he said the government will form an aviation policy committee to facilitate the initiative.

Once finished, as many as 3 million tons of products will be transported through the country, making Thailand a major distribution and transportation center in this region.

Got to love the continued optimism...deluded but hey !! Red flags flying ,runways not big enough and breaking up , immigration queues ,robbing luggage and so much more ...So grounds for a hub to beat all hubs !

To be the hub of aviation, Thailand needs to build up skills in Aircraft MRO capability in Thailand by providing a well educated skilled workforce in the area.. There's a reason why Singapore remains a prime choice for Aircraft MRO.

Thai Customs will have a field day with this.  The hub of corruption.

Solly but i lost count, how many hub-plans did we hear about last years?

And is the Thai aviation up to worldstandard now? Can their pilots speak real english now?

no it is not

Plus the reason their flagship carrier is a business failure is because they refused to co-operate with other airlines in code sharing deals and got left behind

The problem with problems is not recognising that you have one

When BKK was constructed they had the chance to look at the best of the best: Changi ( although already old by then, was undergoing a major expansion), Seoul had approved Incheon and it was almost complete), Hong Kong was well under construction. Did they look at the competition? Doubt it because we end up with: poorly designed and insufficient space at immigration, in and out; woefully inadequate security screening areas, a public transport system that doesn't serve the public ( dodgy taxis and a borderline unsafe train), insufficient aerobridges, slow and antiquated baggage system.

Well you have to hand it to them they've got guts to get up and say this , after a protracted stalling and buck passing  with airworthiness certificates  , which is still not fully sorted out , they come out with this rubbish, they must dream up something each week just to keep us occupied here at TV.....................................:cheesy:

Are, but more retail floor space , so much so they initially either hid the toilets amongst King Powers Grandiose shopping scheme or else never bothered too build them at all

At the same time, they should think about promoting General Aviation ( GA) as well, with vastly increased flight training and even an Aeronautical University in Khaoyai as has already been mooted ! Helicopters should also  be allowed, and the rule that only registered companies can own or operate them,. should be lifted,  as this would be included in the new Universty syllabus as well.

How about proper public transportation system at the major airports...
Suvarnabhumi Airport, Express Line of ARL? I haven't heard anything about this for a long time

Don Mueang, okay, Red line is under construction, have to see how that works out.

Other airports, taxi mafia and Tuk Tuk drivers ready to rip you off.

Welcome to Thailand!

Look at the photo, maybe they should put em all on the Immigration Desks to help sort the queues. That would be a more practical use of man power rather than having em pissing in each others pockets.

This was mooted about when Don Muang was vacated .. The plan included 3 huge new hangers for aircraft servicing.

Never got off the ground (excuse the metaphor) as too much fighting over who got the bigger brown paper bags.

We gave up on our attempt to win a contract to build

Wow, a lot of thought has obviously already gone into the creation of this new HUB, as they already know that 3 million tons of freight will pass through Thailand when it is finished.  I expect TAT provided the figures, so we can rely on their accuracy.

Still, at least it provided a good excuse for another committee to be formed.....this time an Aviation Policy Committee.

I wonder just how many committees are currently (theoretically) in progress?
