When I've had a few too many Leos and have a headache its better to take aspirin is it not ?

Certainly not what the doctors say, aspirin irritates the stomach increasing some of the symptoms of  hangover.

Does paracetemol actually do any good whatsoever? Aspirin seems to help me, and ponstan, and best of all tramadol.

I try to avoid painkillers where possible, finding a good lie down most helpful.

As for hangovers: well you know the real solution.

Yes the real solution is not to drink too many Leos but after I have drunk too many, aspirin is better than paracetamol due to possible liver damage from paracetamol ?

I would guess at aspirin.

And probably taken as Alka-saltzer (spelling prob. wrong).  This combines aspirin with bicarbonate of soda, which should settle the stomach and provide much needed alkaline.  But not wholly sure- it's a long time since I checked it out.

Oddly for a peptic stomach, coca cola and paracetamol might help.

Paracetamol, alcohol and caffeine together make for a problem for the liver, so you should not drink coffee if taking paracetamol for a hangover.

Wouldn't Pepsi be better?

Ponstan, wow, serious stuff, I wouldn't be recommending that horrid drug to anyone, far too many side effects, it makes a percentage of people vomit blood and is seriously harsh on the liver, and just for a little hangover too, really?  Tramadol maybe, but again we are talking hangovers here not slipped disks, Tramadol is a serious pain killer in the same realms as morphine, hardly necessary for most men with a head ache.

Oh, just noticed your name, mommysboy, suddenly it all makes sense...

Nah! You'd have to be talking about very large amounts.  Some migraine tablets actually contain caffeine, along with whatever the analgaesic is they use.

Sorry, my fault, I was talking about painkillers in general not specifically for hangovers.

And not industrial use, just now and then.

But I guess my point is that paracetamol appears to do nothing for me, perhaps lower twmperature a bit.

Yeah, but we were talking about hangovers, obviously the migraine cures don't have alcohol in them and will also state on the packet that they are not to be taken with alcohol.

It is not a very good painkiller in general, very mild, it is however something of a wonder drug in relation to lowering fevers, it saves many many lives.

Well really for a hangover you should take nothing at all, because alcohol disrupts so many systems in the body, perhaps bicarbonate of soda.

You're not taking them with alcohol of course. Yes it stays in the system up to 12 hours, but in the morning is largely gone.

As I said earlier, a banana is as effective as most of the painkillers people do take.

I was given Mefmic 500mg  at the Hospital  in BKK

it is another NSAID  but have not seen it in the USA

In Thailand, it goes under the name Ponstan.  It is available over the counter in pharmacies. It needs to be taken in moderation (and not as a hangover cure). The Thai version is about 60 baht per pack.

Personally, I find it is one of the few painkillers that actually works, but read insert as it is one of the stronger medicines.

The package I have does not have a brand name , light yellow color pills , oval shaped

I am never sure if these or other NSAIDs work or if its just the normal recovery time from hard working ,  its hard to do a double blind study on yourself !

Yes, that's the one.  There's a branded version and a Thai version.  Tramadol, which is a strong painkiller, definitely works, as much because it is a muscle relaxant with anti-anxiety properties.  I don't know if the OTC medicines really work either.

Half the problem with pain is the tension created when we fight against it.  A good rest is probably the best cure for minor ailments.
