Police rounded up 40 young road racers from three areas in Bangkok late Saturday night and early Sunday.

The arrested road racers, who are mostly younger than 18, were paraded in front of reporters at the Wang Thonglang police station at 2 am.

The operation to crack down on road racers was jointly carried out by the Patrol and Special Operation (191) Division and Metropolitan Police Division 4.

Agree

And sadly, in 5 years from now, those juveniles will become Bus-,  Minivan- and Taxi-drivers

Yes and they will drive those busses just like they raced the motorcycles.

Inpound the motorbikes and the mobil phones of the drivers for 1 week with a fine of 10,000 baht  to get return of either or both. The bib seem very good at topping up their pay at random road stops for helmet, liscense, etc. this method makes them more money , less time involved, and access to the latest transport and communication system avalable. Those unclaimed can be auctioned off every lotto draw day.

40 x 100baht = 4,000baht fines collected. Kids sent on their way. Told they are naughty boys and don't do it again.

Confiscate the bikes, crush them and send the offenders away for 3 months military training.

In many cases, the "leaders" of those Motocy race gangs are offspring of Policemen and politicians, so don't expect these midnight road races to be eradicated anytime soon

Crush their bikes.  End of problem.

There is a great photo on the internet that shows a steam roller crushing motor bikes in New York City after they were taken from illegal racers. Here the bib are afraid of offending the sons of a well-to-do.

What about that crackdown on motorcyclists using the pavements a short time ago, is it still ongoing?:cheesy:

Lights action camera its a wrap a great photo op of the cops in action. Nice to see the cops working after dark here they go home and the street racers take over. Too much work to pick them off one at a time I guess. Its time the licensing people make the owner fire the bike up and listen to the noise it puts out before giving them a sticker. I know to much like work not my job etc. etc. etc.

Maybe if they had somewhere to go to hoon around , the local race track or whatever it would encourage them to be more responsible on the public roads.

Always seems to be a heavy handed reaction.

A lot of us were young once and enjoyed a bit of a rev around.

Source?

Crush the bikes, Those who own them have proved beyond doubt that they are irresponsible and a danger to others.

Just tell them that they get away with small fine and a warning first time, after register the offense. Give information that next time you get caught, the fine will be 35000 Bath and 60 days of community service.
Confiscating or smashing the bikes will not give a result. They can easily get a new one, but it´s harder without money!

And if they don't have 35,000 baht?

Anyone in Phitsanulok can see many real street racers at the Main Police Station. Officer told me they rarely re claim them.

Make the parents responsible up to the age of  20. After that 5 years i jail if no money. Problem solved!

Taking a slightly different tack here, I wonder how many of the "racers" were just decent kids in the wrong place at the wrong time.
