New traffic cams set up to catch helmet less riders

Featured Replies

Not sure about rest of island but today starts the new campaign to ticket Helmet less riders here in Kamala.

supposedly (not sure) the cams photograph the rider as he/she is coming and going and those without a helmet are than sent a ticket and their photo, in the mail which must be paid within 30 days

Any other places this is set up?   In kamala its at the two traffic lights. Not sure how they will deal with rental bikes/riders

Traffic cameras are just a kind gesture to the traffic cam company.

In that case for rentals they would have to run an automatic program which have the passport number registered so, any traffic violation can be sent to the person mobile number otherwise he can't leave the country.

you are bright. I'm sure they will implement this system ASAP.

The way one of the cameras has been popping and fizzing over the past few days in the heavy rain I wouldn't worry about it!

Further to the link below- The junctions where the red light cameras have been installed are: Khao Lan on Thepkrasattri Rd in Srisoonthorn, Chao Fa Tawan Tok – Khwang Rd in Wichit, Sri Gor in Kathu, Kamala and Gormaratat in Phuket Town.

I'm guessing April fools due to no link lol

Why would he post a link- he was making a comment?

Here's the link to the cameras.

Ha.  I often watch a sumui web cam from Lamai.  It looks like 90% of thais and foreigners do not wear a helmet there.  No need to spend a lot of money any traffic cam.  Just go to just about any intersection or straight away and the helmetless net will fill up in no time

Who could care less, wear a helmet as required by law and you have nothing to worry about

Same goes for having the required legal license at road blocks, break the local laws and you have to pay a 500 baht fine which is nothing compared to most countries, the BIB also let you ride away without a license once you have paid the fine so they can catch and fine you the following day, No need to fine Thai people with all the stupid foreigners around who think the laws here do not apply to them

By the way they do fine Thai people the same amount when they are caught breaking the law

The article says nothing of "helmet cams". Try reading all the words OP not just mixing a few of them together in your brain then spewing them back out in the incorrect order.

Not only in Phuket. In Hua Hin Police is very busy to give Tickets since 2 Weeks. Daily Checkpoints on Phetkasem Road to fines the Motorbikers.

I was out at Phuket airport last week and there was a police check point on the main road. At least 2 of the copis had helmet cameras of the gopro type.
