BANGKOK: -- A thief bowed in front of an under-construction four-metre-high Buddha image at Wat Boonsri Muneekorn in Bangkok’s Soi Ram-Inthra 46 before stealing three jewellery items from the image, temple abbot Phra Maha Chanon Kusalajitto said on Sunday.

The stolen items were worth Bt200,000, the monk said.

The thief, who was captured by the temple’s CCTV, wore gloves and came with tools to cut glass the image is contained in at around 11.30pm on Saturday, said Phra Chalad Chanthathammo.

The thief appeared to be calm and spent about 30 minutes at the site before prostrating in front of the Buddha image and stealing the jewellery, the monk said.

Since 2009, this temple has been subjected to theft 13 times, resulting in some 100 Buddha images being stolen. There have been no arrests.

Two Buddha images were stolen from an arch pavilion at the temple on January 15, resulting in the installation of the CCTV cameras.

You'll be asking for too much thinking of people who simply don't have

the abilities to deduce that it's about time that security should upgraded,

Mai Pen Rai, forgive and forget, and keep hanging hundred of thousand

worth of jewelries out there for the taking thinking that Thai people will

have enough respect to  nick them, well, what a surprise.....

That sounds inauspicious.

Someone trying to tell us something?

{sarcasm alert}

I'd be questioning the head monk     .....  :shock1:

With the number of monks they have you would think that it would be easy enough to assign them a duty schedule to watch over their things.

Those naughty  Falang are up to no good again

in Thailand.

There needs to be a crack down on disrespectful Falangs,

in  disguise,  steeling stuff,

It gives good Thais a bad name. :jap:

correct, calm, cool, hard working, he deserves the booty, the statue doesn't need it. What's wrong with replicas ? They have been robbed 13 times already, can't help stupid, time to adorn the statue with another 20,000 Baht.

Is that a black arm band on his wrist for the mourning of the king?

Yep! Approx. 100 things stolen already. Just lucky the CCTV worked this time. Must be a high quality system. Heard thoose are hard to find over here. Sseems like they are quite lucky anyway.

It would not be all that difficult to set up a motion detector that turns on flood lights and sounds some sort of alarm in monks quarters.

Yeah, you got him on CCTV, which no one was watching..... Perp looks Asian to me. That narrows things down a bit
