BANGKOK: -- The Cabinet has approved a budget of Bt2.076 billion to build a science and technology learning centre called the Futurium.

Science Minister Anchaka Seeboonruang said the Cabinet approved the budget during the weekly meeting on Tuesday.

The centre will be built on a 51-rai plot of land of the National Science Museum in Tambon Klong Ha in Pathum Thani’s Klong Luang district. Construction is expected to be completed in 2021, she added.

The minster said the Futurium will be a learning centre for science and technology, new innovations and new careers and skills.

She said the Futurium will also serve as a testing centre for science and tech skills of students who are preparing to work in technology-related fields.

The centre will also promote learning of skills for 27 careers, Anchaka said.

The 27 careers include traffic planners, mechanical engineers, industrial designers, software developers robot engineers, robot operators, climate analysts, disaster management planners, emergency pharmacists, petroleum geologists, energy engineers, solar engineers, plant researchers and genetic engineering scientists and drug scientists.

She said the Futurium will also serve as a development centre to try to enhance the potential of eight innovation-related industries –transportation, robots and automation, disaster management, alternative energy, smart agriculture, bio/nano technologies, space and aviation, and Thailand-initiated innovations.
