LAMPANG: -- A woman narrowly escaped being burned alive after a policeman and a passer-by managed to pull her out of her crashed car before flames engulfed the vehicle in Lampang on Monday afternoon.

Police said the accident happened at 2.20pm at Kilometre marker 472 on the Lampang-Denchai road.

Pol Sgt Jarurin Tojui, an officer of Ban Pangma-o vilage in Tambon Wangngern of Mae Tha district, said he was told of a car crashing into a tree on the downhill curve.

Jarurin said he and a passer-by found that the car’s engine had already caught fire and was spreading to the front seats. He said the driver, Angsana Kham-in, 37, was trapped by her seat belt but he and the passer-by managed to pull her out.

Two fire engines took about 15 minutes to put out the blaze.

Angsana suffered severe burns on her right side and was taken to the Lampang Hospital.
