I passed by the  "beach replenishment scheme" today. Nothing going on, and nothing going to happen, but the hoarding stays up and the beach is inaccessible to the people ( it's filthy anyway, even if one does go on it ).

Just south of the hoarding the beach wall has collapsed.

For most of the length, the beach is above the walkway so the sand spills over the walkway, at least till the rainy season when the beach will get washed away again.

Seems to me that the authorities have no clue how to manage a tourist destination in search of the elusive "hi quality ( spending )" tourist. Of course, when it was a mongers town they didn't need to actually do much, as the mongers will come regardless.

I shouldn't complain- the rubbish infrastructure is all that is keeping the families away and the bars here.

To OP, why are you here?

So how does any of this make a real problem or ruin someone's day?

Every place has something these seem like minor issues.  You are not in Syria.

Getting back to why you are here?  All the positive fun is much the same.  That is a good thing it seems Soi 6 and other venues are full of young hungry girls.

It is easy to focus on some negative issues.  Think of the fun and good times you will have and enjoy your time.

You've missed the threads? One our favorite whinge topics. Guess we'll have to do it all again here now.

Here you go:

Pattaya beach nourishment program?

Said it all really. But then we had the pitiful cry of pain & deprivation:

When can we see the sea again?!

It appears that the mighty TVF Pointing Finger Of Justice will have to target this issue. It's the only way.

Naklua and Wongamat beach is not too bad , the seawater even looked clean when I visited the other day,  even if we know it's not.  And they did clean up the beach there so it looks like any other normal tourist beach. Very relaxing compared to Pattaya beach and all the trash that goes with it.

Seriously, why are you here?  You seem to dislike Pattaya very much, so why? I'm honestly curious!

With 509 posts you obviously haven't been around long enough to read all my "I love Pattaya" posts.

Love Pattaya, hate the attempts to trendify it and take away "fun city".

More than anything, I hate the new promenade. For those new to Pattaya, the version about 3 ago was the best, but I fear the greedies have irrevocably destroyed that Pattaya, and replaced it with the abortion we have now- neither decent nor cheap and cheerful.

Is it time for The Pavements Report yet?

Oh, didn't know you were waiting for that.

The pavements are still the same as ever. Haven't been fixed in over 20 years. Walking past the place where the gas bottle shop on Soi 10 used to be I noticed that the pavement was still shattered from those days. The gas shop has been gone a very long time.

The difference between Bkk pavements and Pattaya pavements is that the Pattaya pavements are too narrow for the motorcy taxi guys to park on.

I agree, but then they would just park Motor bikes or food stands on the sidewalks and you'd still have to walk in the road............The one way would be good for everyone though, even minus the sidewalks.

Its really worth the try to make soi bukaw an one way only traffic street with pavements on both sides actually its interesting soi for walking but now thats simply impossible cause no pavements.

Yes and the big hotels with their rich owners. There is a squeezing out underway of the marginal, grey economy type establishments and jobs. Street food vendors is another example of it. The elite want serfs not competition.

Difficult but not impossible.  I do it every time I come to Pattaya you just need to be a bit nimble on your feet, face the oncoming traffic and jump into a gap between parked vehicles as you are about to be mown down by a baht bus.

Hmmmmm. Some of us are not as young as you imply. In fact, some of us have a hard time just getting out of bed, never mind playing leapfrog with the traffic.

I won't go on Buakhao unless I have to as it's just too dangerous with the idiot m'bike riders riding full tit down the wrong side of the road.

OK, having said our rosary, are we 'bout ready to cue the applause and come to our inevitable, most damning, feared conclusion that this ain't no world-class family resort?

Why? We that actually live in it know that to be so. Unfortunately, and this is my beef, the authorities dream of the zillions of baht to be made from the elusive "high spending tourist", and have done everything to stuff up the reason most of us like Pattaya, without spending a single satang to actually make it a high end resort city.

I think for drivers at soi bukow there is for them currently no wrong side of the road all sides and gaps are optional so if u consider that fact in your attempt to cross the road u might have more of a chance.

Been down to Walking Street couple of nights now.

Better looking girls than Soi Cowboy and that's just the touts outside the gogos.

Has to be the best free show ever.

Some complain about the Chinese tour groups, but they are part of the great social event that takes part every night, and many of the girls are pretty chicky. They are needed, as the Russians seem to have vanished, or at least in the numbers that used to be cruisin'.

If anything, Thai freelancers seem fewer now. Perhaps on the internet instead. Less ladyboys than used to be.

Even the Arab bars seem fewer, and quieter than in the past.

Feel sorry for the boxers under Marine Disco, as they were almost devoid of customers. Must be hard getting smashed every night for little reward.

Physically, W S is pretty decrepit. Loads of ugly hoardings in front of demolished buildings. Seems that a lot of buildings were demolished way back, but nothing going on now.

If anyone wants a cheap feed, the seafood restaurant behind the Lucky Star bars is the deal. Pity they demolished all the buildings opposite.

Conversly, the restaurant on the street that I used to eat at has gone barking and increased their prices to extraordinary levels. Unsurprisingly, not a single customer while I was around.

Something I've never noticed before in Pattaya. Seems to be quite a few young farang women wandering around. Perhaps they didn't realise that Pattaya is the sort of place that offends them.

At least the backpackers haven't moved in, so that's good.

I have not noticed it, but I think many of the universities particularly in the US are on break after Spring semester so maybe that is why.

But after spending so much time in SEA the past few years, I only notice falang ladies because they all seem so big. Large bodies, faces, butts compared to the Asian ladies.  I do not think falang ladies are attractive anymore.

Still too many overweight farang in Pattaya, some can barely walk. How do they make it onto the plane and sit for 12 hours? They all think the ladies love 'em though..

I'm not really worried about the beach or the sand, if I want beach and sand I go to either Samui or Majorca.

So what brings u to Pattaya then since it is not the beach and the sand?
