Forgot Re-entry Permit

Featured Replies

I entered LOS in 2015 on a Non Imm. O A visa for 12 months.  Left and went back in August last year so had 12 more months.  The reentry permit slipped my mind when leaving a week ago. So now I'm back in Oz thinking I probably have to go through the whole visa application process again if I want to stay for another 12 months.  Is there any way around this?  Advice please.

You will have to apply for a new OA visa. Your visa apparently expired some time ago.

Or you could apply for a one year extension of stay immigration here. You would need 800k baht in a Thai bank or proof of 65k baht income or a combination of the 2 totaling 800k baht. If you want to go this route I suggest you get a single entry tourist visa that would allow a 60 day entry that you could change to a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at immigration and the apply for the one year extension based upon retirement.

Thanks ubonjoe.  I did speak to the immigration officer about an extension on my second 90 day reporting and was told about the money/income details.  Just forgot the reentry permit at the crucial time.  Don't want to go through the application process that was a hassle two years ago.  Even going through an agent it took three attempts.  No one seemed to know what `bounded` meant which the paperwork had to be, by a notary public, before submitting.  So I will look into the 60 day tourist visa option.

the whole re-entry idea is flawed; for me to go shopping in tachilek for one hour costs 500 to get in myanmar (that's ok) but 1900 to return to thailand; tourists dont pay anything ; so i dont go , and leave my friends at the border

What are you paying 1900 baht for? That is the fee for a extension of stay.

Joe: isnt that the going rate for the re-entry permit ?

The fee for a single re-entry permit is 1000 baht and for a multiple it is 3800 baht.

k; i stand corrected ;point remains however the differing treatment of expats and tourists

HUH?a reentry permit is ONLY 1,000 baht for single entry  3,800 for multiple.

1,900 is for an Extension of stay

Ubonjoe.  After looking up the information on tourist visas I find that I would need to have a return airfare ticket to enter on a tourist visa and leave within the 30 days or 60 days.

Tourist have to get tourist visas or visa exempt entries. Only 60 or 30 day entries. If a person with a single entry tourist visa want to leave and re-enter during the 60 day entry from it they also need a re-entry permit.

To me there is no way you can compare those here on extensions of stay or long stay visas with tourists.

You do not need a return ticket a one way ticket out of the country is accepted for a 30 day visa exempt entry. A one way ticket to a nearby country would be accepted.

You do not need a return or onward ticket to enter the country with a tourist visa. But the embassy and official consulate in Sydney may want a ticket out of the country to apply for the visa. If you got the tourist visa from one of the honorary consulates (see: http://canberra.thaiembassy.org/Home/RoyalThaiHonoraryConsulate ) they do not ask for the ticket out to to apply for one.

Melbourne's requirements are here. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/564565b4e4b03880a2ff050f/t/58f58a0cd2b857170c9c9fb0/1492486673633/TR-TouristSingleEntryVisa85.pdf

Thanks again ubonjoe.  Something else I read today was that you cannot get a reentry permit at the airport now, only at the office in Bangkok or any immigration checkpoint.  Is that correct?

Unless something has changed in the last few days, you can get reentry permits 24 hours at both Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang when leaving on an international flight. I would be astonished if this has changed without prior notice.

BritTim,

This is where I read the info on reentry permits. Don't know how reliable it would be but here it is.

Re-Entry Permits

Thai Re-entry Permit

If you have an extension of stay but would like to travel outside Thailand for a short period then you will need to apply for a Re-Entry permit. Unlike before that this can be secured at the airport, Immigration rules have changed and you can now apply for a re-entry permit at the following:

That is not a official website. It is a commerical website run by a law firm.

Thanks ubonjoe.  Geez it would be good if old and no longer relevant info was deleted, particularly by law firms that are looking for business.
