Marine police and jet ski drivers on Friday launched a search of a Chinese tourist who went missing while driving a jet ski in the sea off Koh Samui on Thursday.

Led by marine police, about 20 jet skis took part in the search for the Chinese tourist, Zhen Wen-tuk, who was reported to be heading toward Koh Som when heavy rainstorm struck.

I hope Mr. Zhen is okay and that he has successfully nicked the Jet Ski. It would make a pleasant change to hear a story of Jet Ski operators BEING scammed.

Probably noticed the paint peeling from the hidden damage and, knowing what was coming next, parked it a few km away and beat it out of there.

Emboldened by the fact that he doesn't have to make it all the way to the Mainland.  Just to the 9 dash line- maybe 3 or 4 miles from Vietnam or Indonesia...

Koh Samui was a pristine "Bali Hai" when I visited in 1987, with only beach-hut accommodations and certainly no airport or jet skiers. Thailand ruins all its best places with noise and congestion. Koh Phi Phi is so beautiful but ruined (last time I visited 15 years ago) by noisy water taxis that run around until midnight.

There was a very heavy rainstorm Thursday lunchtime, it would have significantly reduced visibility and it would have been quite easy to get disoriented. Having said that you'd have thought that they'd have found him by now.

.... he was on the BTS as that Thai Guy(?) told him to go back to his country....

He might have abandoned ship. Saw a chinese hire a ski on Lamai beach, travelled about 200 metres and fell off the back. There was an offshore wind blowing so he headed for shore letting the ski go with the wind.

The jetsji and it;s new owner is now in China. Thank you Thai Post!

A Thai fishing boat found the jet ski but no chinese man ....   this is true news.
