Trying to get my wife a holiday visa to go to the U.K, the agency in Bkok want baht 20,000 is this correct, do i have to use an agency?

There's no need to use an agency, but if you do, make sure you use one that refunds your fee if the visa is refused.  All the information you and your wife need is available on this Forum and online.

No !!   you can go to UK embassy and find what your wife needs.

My friend has done this recently,  maybe someone will reply later with what's required.

Your wife, who is the applicant, really doesn't need to use an agency unless she feels her case it a difficult one, most aren't.

That said some applicants like the comfort that an experienced agent brings, she needs to be aware that there are a lot of cowboys out there with only one or two I would trust, that comfort comes at a price.

As brewsterbudgen says, there's a lot of helpful advice on this forum, if either of you have anything you're not sure about then feel free to ask.

does she have a  job? does she have any assets in Thailand she'll come back for, any savings?..............my Wife does this every year, its  no problem although we  have been married 11 years and she has quite a lot of assets she can show as a reason to return. Never had a problem yet..........get a relative to send a letter "asking her to visit" they like that.

Dont waste  money on an agent

No one goes to the embassy any more---the office is in Soi 13 Nana--its called "Trendy Building" the UK share that office with the Australians......most other countries are in there on different floors. When you walk in you will probably be approached by a guy in a suite saying they will just check the papers for you---its a scam....they take you to one of the offices and then tell you that she wont get a visa, but they can help you out etc...etc...

As one of the main tenants there I do wish the embassy's would stop this happening. I was there last month, Easy process compared to years ago----and no you do not get your money back from the office if the Visa fails.....from an agency.....maybe some, I have been UK/Oz many times with wife, and never used them.

Thanks for update l had know idea things had changed that much,  it's been 15 years since my wife applied for visa to UK at the British Embassy in Bkk.

Back then 6 months only at first was given,  on return could apply for a 2 years visa after which time she could apply to stay in the UK.
