National Disaster Prevention Day held in Surin

The province of Surin organized the “National Disaster Prevention Day” to stimulate agencies and people to jointly help prevent disasters from happening and understand their impacts.

Surin governor Poonsak Pranutnoraphan said manmade and natural disasters such as fire, flood, and road accident have incurred great losses in lives and properties. Therefore, it is important for all sides to work together seriously, especially the local administration organizations because they are close with the local people. He said plans have to be developed to prevent negligence, and all sectors have to be ready and coordinate together continuously so disasters can be solved promptly and effectively.

Mr. Poonsak read a message from Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont on the occasion of the National Disaster Prevention Day. The message commemorated those who have lost their lives from the tsunami tragedy and other natural disasters. Over 300 people from various organizations and agencies joined the event and signed the memorandum of understanding with the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Network.

In addition, a seminar was organized to create public awareness on disasters, and the private sector and various agencies also organized a fair on this occasion.
