Renewing Australian Passport?

Featured Replies

Anything I need to take besides the passport and photos to get it renewed? I checked on the website and that's all it appears to be, but just want to double check as it means a trip from Pattaya to Bkk, and I don't want to forget anything.

Be prepared to fork out nearly AUD $500 for the pleasure of getting

a 64 pages book, that very book cost like $200 less in Oz to make

the fee is just as unreasonably inflated for the 32 pages one,

what gives the embassy the rights to gouge people on fees right across

the board I'm still trying to figure out...

I can get it for half that because I'm 75, but it's only for 5 years, not 10, so it's not really a bargain. I agree, why should it cost $200 more in Thailand, just another way for the government to rip you off.

I just had a look and it's $356 (35 pages), includes an overseas processing fee.

Fees to be paid in Thai Baht, by cash or credit card, at the passport interview

Fees effective from 1 January 2016 are as follows, and include the overseas processing fee of AUD102, introduced in July 2015:

AUD 484 (10 years/67 pages)
AUD 356 (10 years/35 pages)

I just got mine and paid 9930 baht for the 35 page one. This is the price shown on their chart at the office. I don't know how often they update it.

If anybody has any doubt about documents, the process etc., I suggest give the consular section a call, they are very friendly, good listeners and you get clear answers.

I'm old and a bit doddery, the Oz lady I spoke to at the quick interview went out of her way to make me feel comfortable ans she was obviously and politely making sure I was fully understanding all of her answers. They don't bite. All completed within 15 minutes of arriving at their office.

I don't walk so well nowadays, the  consular lady called the staff at the security gate to ask them to have a taxi waiting for me and one of the security staff came quickly to the main building to walk with me back to the security gate.

When Canberra changes the pricing.

At the 1st January every year the passport price increases to the equivalent of the CPI. The Overseas processing fee also increases. As previously stated it is now AU$102

Then every month depending on the exchange rate it will also change because you have to pay in Thai Baht.

Again thank you Julie Bishop for ripping off the Australian expats.
