Rear Shock - Getting it reconditioned or rebuilt??

Featured Replies

I've a rear shock with 120,000km on it. The dealer said it's just about had it. With the stiffness of the ride and dead feeling I agree.

It's a runaround bike and a new shock is probably 20% of what the bike's worth. Probably 7 or 8k and the bike is probably only worth 35 or 40k.

Is it possible to get a rear shock rebuilt or reconditioned in some Thai backyard place? Or once gone do you need to buy a new one?

Thanks. Location is BKK, btw.

Re-con front forks can be so l guess rear shocks could be done,  must be someone in bangers that can do it,  will it be worth effort though..

Front forks can be very expensive but a rear at 7k-8k  sounds cheap to me.

Rebuilding and recondition rear shock absorbers is for most motorcycles in Thailand not really viable option. Probably the best and valuable option is to buy new shocks.

For small motorcycles that are manufactured by one of the larger manufacturers, it’s probably not worth to refurbish the shocks. Most shock absorbers on small bikes are low quality items made from cheap/value materials, with that in mind 120,000 kilometers is a huge amount….

What bike is it ?.  If its only worth 35K , would a used/secondhand shock be more viable , if available.
