Psychiatrist summoned for Khon Kaen murder suspects

KHON KAEN: -- The head of Khon Kaen Prison said on Tuesday he would have a psychiatrist interview the three women accused of murdering a karaoke club singer after they showed signs of stress during an initial physical examination on arrival.

 

Prison director Weerachai Phetcharat said the detainees wept during their physicals and while their personal information was being gathered. 

 

Weerachai said the trio shared a detention cell the first night, each woman supervised by two guards to prevent any suicide attempt. They would have separate cells beginning today, he said.

 

The director said he had asked for a psychiatrist from Khon Kaen Rajanagarindra Psychiatric Hospital to meet the women and assess their state of mental health.

 

Priyanuch Nonwangchai, Kawita Rachada and Apiwan Satayabundit were arrested in Myanmar on Sunday and handed over to Thai authorities on suspicion of murdering Warisara Klinjui in Khon Kaen late last month. Her body was discovered, cut in two pieces, buried in a remote woodlot in Khao Suan Kwang. 

 

They were forced to re-enact the crime on Monday before being taken to the provincial prison. 

 

Weerachai said the women were healthy and tests found that Priyanuch and Kawita’s urine was free of illegal drugs. Apiwan, however, showed signs of having taken drugs in Myanmar five days ago.

Oh my God, signs of stress after arrest for murderer, call a psychiatrist for the poor girls. Wouldn't a simple bullet do it, or a noose?

All part of the "plan".  Psychiatric exam shows they have "emotional problems" and shouldn't be held totally accountable for their actions.  Sympathetic judge then gives the a lower sentence.  Out in 5 years.

They are as mad as they come. Simple assessment. Cost you nothing if you'd asked me first  . . .

KHON KAEN: -- THE THREE women accused of murdering and dismembering a karaoke club singer will have a psychiatric interview after they showed signs of stress during an initial physical examination when they arrived at Khon Kaen Prison.

 

Prison director Weerachai Phetcharat said the detainees wept during their physicals and while they were questioned about personal information. 

 

Weerachai said the three shared a detention cell for the first night of incarceration but they would be held in separate cells starting yesterday, he said. Each woman was being supervised by two guards to prevent any suicide attempt, he added.

 

The director said that he had asked for a psychiatrist from Khon Kaen Rajanagarindra Psychiatric Hospital to meet the women and assess the state of their mental health.

 

Priyanuch Nonwangchai, 24, Kawita Rachada, 26, and Apiwan Satayabundit, 28, turned themselves in to Myanmar authorities on Saturday and were handed over to Thai police on suspicion of murdering Warisara Klinjui, 22, in Khon Kaen late last month. Her dismembered body was discovered buried in a remote wooded area in Khao Suan Kwang. 

 

The three women were forced to re-enact the crime on Monday before being taken to a provincial prison. 

 

At least one of the women has confessed to the crime.

 

Weerachai said the women were healthy and Priyanuch and Kawita passed drug tests. However, Apiwan’s urine test showed signs of having taken drugs, which she reportedly did in Myanmar five days ago.

 

Apiwan’s father and relatives yesterday visited her at the prison. 

 

“Our whole family is sad. We had never thought things would come to this point,” said her father. 

 

Priyanuch’s mother and elder sister also showed up at the prison but were denied a visit because they could not produce all the required documents. 

 

In the wake of huge media coverage of the case, Chulalongkorn University academics will stage a seminar today on Thai society’s keen interest in drama and violent-crime news and the media's competition in presenting such news.

 

The "Killing: A New Value?" seminar is designed to allow academics to address the issue and warn people to be careful when consuming such content.

 

“We also intend to remind media - both mainstream and online - about the negative impact of the content,” Asst Prof Dr Pirongrong Ramasoota, the university’s vice president for Social Outreach and Global Engagement, said. 

 

Speakers at the seminar will include psychology expert Dr Sompoch Eiumsupasit, civil media expert Ua-jit Wirojtrairat, criminal code expert Pareena Srivanich, mass communication expert Munyat Akarachantachote and psychiatrist Puchong Laurujisawat.

I am sure turning a blind eye would not draw too much criticism. 

Everybody wants to get in on the act (oops, even me it seems).

Waste money on trickcyclists, and on guards to supervise them in the cells.  Stop wasting taxpayers money. They have confessed to doing it. Just hang them high, shoot them or whatever, if they don't first commit suicide and save everyone the trouble.. This will likely drag on for years with appeal after appeal. How long before they are given bail?

Perhaps the psychiatrist could help some of these tv posters too.

Yea, usually when you're in jail awaiting trial for murder you'll be stressed. The way I avoid this kind of stress is by not committing crimes.

 

Pretty simple really. 

Some might argue that the multitudes of happy smiling police involved in this case might need some psychiatric evaluation as well.

All they need to do is have new pics of them applying make-up and smoking freely, and then the police and prison can lie that it's always been a rule that female prisoners are allowed to do this.

I understand you didn't want to kill her! What made you cut her up? Have you ever done something like that before? Are you happy now?

 

She's fine and has no mental issues! Prison will be good for her, but no longer than 40 years.

Perhaps he/she could examine those BiB who seemed to have a cosy little arrangement with the prisoners.

Maybe this person can have the kindness to check up the state of mind regarding all police that has benn smiling, and laughing in photos together with the suspects too.

Goes to show the leniency that society provides those with world class knockers.    Basically The Big Bang Theory.   Who cares what the plot is, because, well... world class.

Yes, they may want to study why the cops feel the need for 're-enactments',   and finger pointing sessions in front of cameras, also.

These poor girls!  Having killed the victim, they cut her in half and then hid the body, before carrying on with their lives.  Not too much stress shown there.

 

Now, having been caught, admitting guilt and being treated like stars by the police and to some extent by the media, they firstly ask not to be questioned for too long as they were tired and then subsequently felt a bit stressed due to the questioning and the celebrity status they have suddenly acquired. 

 

I trust that after their trial they will be feeling "stressed" while locked up for many years. As for the three girls meeting the victim's parents while still wearing masks, and begging for forgiveness, the police surely took a risk that the parents would take the law into their own hands there and then. The so-called re-enactment of the crime was macabre and utterly ridiculous, merely providing a great show for the public and a welcome  opportunity for the Thai police to show off as usual, as well as possibly providing an opportunity for a member of the public to dispense instant justice.  

 

The apparent admiration that the police seem to hold for these criminals could well be reflected in the psychiatrist suggestion which might be used to prove that these girls must have been of unsound mind, since, after all, they are all Thais and as we have all been told "no Thais could possibly......."

"They wept during their physicals." Just what does a physical at a police detention area consist of? Cavity searches by male officers with an audience?

We've already seen the call for psychiatrc examination etc.

When these bitches get to the Klong Prem Womens facility, (Lard Yao), hopefully they will be doing more than weeping. A reception commitee is probably already being arranged.
