Farang is a harrowing ambulance ride with Kiwi Marko Cunningham – the only foreign medic in Bangkok

Featured Replies

I'd like to thank TV for posting this inspirational and heart warming post. With all the negativity in so much of the news, watching this was like a breath of fresh air.

Good on you Marko and Tiger, and all the others who work with you.

Very touching, I just can't stop crying, imagine a foreigner being able to work as a medic!!! Reminds me of the 1992 film the body snatchers about the po tek tung, this is their rivals. I would hate to have to wait for an 'ambulance'  here.

I don't understand what you mean by medic. There are a lot of foreign working in Bangkok and elsewhere in Thailand

He's not a "medic" - he's a "paramedic".

There are a few genuine medics working in Thailand, perhaps the most famous one being Dr. Donna Robinson.

yes, he is everywhere online, he's been on Thai TV several times.

He's been doing this in Thailand for as long as I have know him, so at least from 2003.

He also teaches first aid programs in Myanmar and Vietnam.

He's a really good guy. He gets people from all over to donate medical supplies and equipment.

He talks like a Kiwi.

Wonderful work by all those involved.

..and she is a Hasher!

I thought Marko had stopped for the last few years, because they had no ambulance?

IIRC, Marko was never formally trained as a paramedic, though I guess that would be what it's called, what they generally do.  But, could also be seen as working without a license, (even if there is no credential or license in Thailand )ethically, correct me if I'm wrong.

and <deleted> with "farang is a harrowing ride"  , pretty lame translation IMHO

Marko lost the one ambulance back around 2006/7 I believe, but he never stopped working.

How can they work without an ambulance,  Ruamkatanayu

If the scenario is now about being "without an ambulance" I wonder why the BMA or Thai Government not helping these volunteers? Petty jealousies or just petulance? :whistling:

He had a personal truck he had fixed up to use, but then he couldn't afford it anymore so he got rid of that and another guy provided the truck. Now he has an actual van type emergency vehicle.

Good man

So can anyone work as volunteers , incl foreigners?

TV please for the love of god, hire a native English editor. A farang cannot be an ambulance ride.

yes, anyone can work as a volunteer but you still need to get a work permit.
