Bangkok man dies in front of family while out snorkeling on Koh Tao

A 62 year old man from Bangkok died on Koh Tao yesterday while out snorkeling with his wife and two daughters.

Sirichai Phutrakul complained of feeling tired while swimming in a life jacket in shallow waters off Ao Kluay Theun, said his wife.

He tried to swim back to the boat put passed out and was face down in the water for a minute before divers at the scene fished him out.

He was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.

Why was nobody on the boat keeping an eye on their customers?

They do....

According to the report he was fished out within a minute. If at all true, they were indeed keeping an eye out.

And that he died anyway would suggest he did not simply faint but rather became unconscious for some other cause e.g. heart attack, stroke etc.

Hopefully he was enjoying himself before the end.  Gotta be better than long, painful descent in a crowded hospital ward.

seems this death at Koh Tao  is one that is not so mysterious and does not seem to be murder

Condolences to the family, but that's not a bad way to go.

Doing something you enjoy, with people you love, and over in a minute.  I hope my demise is as quick and dignified.  Just not as soon.

RIP - tragic death and sympathy to the loved ones left behind.

How about setting up a separate Koh Tao forum and as result improve the quality of the Samui forum.  There is enough news and trash talk to justify a new local section...

Non-swimmers life-guarding the non-swimmers.

Says Who? Could have had  a Spiked  drink before or fed something Bad.Don't spoil the reputation of this Island!

Whatever the cause of death (referring to Sheryl's post) - just what kind of life jacket leaves you "face down" in the water? Shocking.

Supposed to be looking out for what, people face down in the water.  <deleted>, everyone is.....

Yes, not a bad way to go,  RIP / condolences

just wanted to point out that it is worth mentioning if there is a death on Koh Tao that does not seem to be suspicious of a crime

Accidents happen, no need to connect this to other Koh Tao topics.

Next troll will be given warning.

A natural death , it happens all over the world, also on Koh Tao .  RIP.

Eh..  every life jacket. How you think all these Chinese drown snorkeling around Phuket ?

Any warnings during rainy season the deadly jelly fishes come out from the deep and kill instantly ?

One other of many unfair dangers no islander will prevent any one from because money is more important than

the public safety.

Is that Tourism enhancement ?

Now every one knows the islanders own the islands and that can kill.......by lack of what ? conscience, work ethics, laws compliance, training etc....

It's not rainy season in the gulf now, it's in November.

  • 2 weeks later...

Yes rainy season or now not these deadly jelly fishes are in the Gulf of Thailand and no points to hide their killing risks from the swimmers, snorklers, divers better to inform them in advance and surely protective nets should be spread other than in Lamai only, much more, for safety...

we all know by now how dangerous tropical islands are with multiple dangers included the Samui, etc....every one is on his own and should use preventive common sense....

Yes Haven and Hell are close by.......

Nothing new except for Tourism reasons most are kept stupidly secrets.

5 Hospitals only in a small island Samui are open 24/7/365 for emergencies reasons, motorcycles are the most killing transportation....
