latest news on visa is we all require to show 20.000 baht cash on us if entering thailand on tourist visa. ( many people being turned away for not having the said funds )

so,  are there ATM machines before i hit immigration , so as to withdraw the 20000 baht in cash.    ( maybe i could show my bank book with the equivalent amount )

Only if they are suspicious about you.  If its your first or second time in Thailand and only here for 60 days , nothing to worry about.

Best to carry USD or Euro/other equivalent to the 20k THB to be sure, if you fit the profile of additional scrutiny at passport control, given no ATM's airside.

i just dont understand why anyone would not travel with 500 USD or Euros on them.

the number of times i have had atm or credit card issues in a foreign country ensure i have AT LEAST that amount on me, whether it is required or not.

not nice to find your self in bkk, KL, SG, manila without enough cash for a few nights if required.

HooHaa - agree with what you say, its common sense

But in some situations its not practical or possible to do this each time arriving to Thailand

I work in Myanmar, and banking isn't the best here so its not always practical or economical for me to get 500 Euros or USD before flying to Bangkok.  I have Thailand bank accounts, just easier for me to draw on arrival there.

For others coming from western countries, it can be more cost effective to draw from an ATM locally on arrival, instead of going through Forex before leaving their home country

Just another opinion

ATM's in the Airport are in Departures area, and they do not work with Thai ATM cards (need to be overseas cards) and they dispense in USD.  There's a security check between arrivals floor and the upper Departures floor, but it's sometimes possible to go up to the departures level if you say you are making a transfer to another flight  -depends on how diligent the security guy is that day.

I guess you could then change USD to THB at the currency exchange booths?

But sounds simpler to just carry the cash.

It doesn't have to be in Thai baht, just the equivalent of 20,000 baht.

No ATM's when you arrive until after Immigration.

I dont even leave home without a £1000 on me minimum let alone travelling 6000 miles to thailand. Never ever have less than 3 large on me on arrival and last trip 4

That is interesting. Which company is that? My insurance company only offers £750 in personal money cover and £2000 for valuables. How much extra do you have to pay for that? Might be of interest to me if the price is right.

Revolut was never the best option. So why should that have made a difference? With the Halifax Clarity you can withdraw at least £500 per day, at better than cash rates.

So why would people risk carrying all their holiday cash on them, unless they have been transported directly from the seventies?
