CHIANG MAI: -- First it opened its gates free-of-charge for visitors during the Mother's Day celebration period, August 10-14). And now, Chiang Mai’s Royal Park Rajapruek has invited the public to join a candlelight ceremony Saturday night to offer blessings for HM Queen Sirikit on her 85th birthday anniversary.

The park’s “new theory garden” on Friday organised a rice-growing activity at the demonstration rice field to honour the Queen and handed out 1,500 sets of rice seedlings to participants.

Acting director of the Highland Research and Development Institute, a public organisation that operates the park, Methee Payomyong said that visitors during this “green season” could enjoy the sight of 100,000 Siam tulip blossoms among the many beautiful attractions there.

He expected at least 5,000 visitors on Saturday for Mother’s Day.

On Thursday, the first day of free admission, the park received about 2,000 visitors.

The park serves as a learning centre for botanical agriculture and the site for agro-tourism and culture. The park is normally open daily from 8am to 6pm.

I believe that Siam Tulips are in fact various ginger plants.  However, they look great.

Happy Birthday to HM the Queen.
