Golf Courses in Ubon Ratchathani

Featured Replies

I'm wanting to play some golf whilst visiting Ubon in the near future. Internet search reveals several courses, but info is confusing and appears out of date.

Ubon guys .... any golfers amongst you ? Would really appreciate current info on the available courses, green fees, how many holes, facilities, caddy & cart fees etc.

Also, an honest rating-review of each course would be helpful.

Please only respond if you are a regular golfer that has played these courses within the last month or two.

Cheers.

I'm also heading to Ubon and wondering the same thing.  There must be somebody on this forum who plays golf in Ubon.

In Ubon, there are only 2 Golf Courses - one run by the Air Force right at the airport (18-holes) and another run by the Army in Warin (9-holes).  They are both average/decent with the Airport course being a little more challenging.

In Phiboon - just past the Immigration office - 50Kms from Ubon, there is another course that I have never played.

When I played at the Air Force course last month, my caddy was called by the manager to pass on a message that, effective October 01, 2017, they would be implementing a THB 100 "Falang Surcharge".

I used to play 9-holes there every morning after dropping my child at school but have not been back since.  They offer no special services to falangs who are primarily Ubon residents rather than tourists and I, personally, find this Surcharge offensive.

Try charging different rates to foreigners in Europe or the USA and see how fast the law-suits fly.

Is the course on sisaket road (near the ring road) still operating?

Not a duffer but the hotel/9 hole couse is still open. Just outside the ring road on the way to Sisaket, across from TSF furniture in Warin.

Within Ubon proper which includes Warin there are 2 courses, a 9 hole course at the Warin Army base and 18 holes at the Air Base in Ubon.  Both courses have really good greens (for this area).  Warin is the more difficult of the 2, older course a lot of big trees, and fairways do not have what most people would consider to be golf course grass.  Very difficult to find a spot where the ball is sitting up even a little.  There are a couple of water holes; but, not like the Air Base which has cement drainage canals along several of the holes.  We do have a group of ex-pats ranging from 6 to 10 players that play a 9 hole scramble format every Tuesday (Warin) and Thursday (Air Base).  6 A.M. show time and tee off not later then 6:30 usually.  Most of us are has beens; but, we do have one Scot who is very good.  No money involved just getting exercise; and, enjoying the company (mostly).  By the way, we do pay "Thai rates" at both courses. There are 18 holes at the Sirindhorn Dam (Phibon) which is about 60-70 kilos from Ubon towards the Lao border.  They opened the second nine holes last year; and, should have waited.  The greens on that course are not good in comparison to the courses in Ubon.  The fairways are actually easier to hit off of though.  Looks like it should be an easy course; but, you can lose a lot of balls there.  Additionally, there are courses in some of the outlying towns like Amnat Charoen and Yasothon.  Watering holes are few and far between (if at all) on all these courses; so, bring your drinking water with you.

By Thai rates I am assuming you mean the normal price that everyone pays? Also, there is 3 courses, not just the two. Another 9 hole as mentioned a few posts before yours.

The Air Force course has "official" pricing posted right at the starters shack on a 4 x 1 meter banner.  Those prices include the "farong" price increase someone mentioned above.  The U.S. embassy rep for our region plays in our group; so, he went directly to the base commander to get us the Thai prices.  As for the other 9 hole course, I don't know anyone who has played that; or, if it is even open.  I'll ask around and post the answer.
