Hello I am about to start the process of selling my motorcycle in Bangkok. I was planning on selling it to a Dealer to reduce the paperwork and hassle attached with the sale. However I have discovered that they still need me to get an official address document (I don't have a work permit). One place would accept an original document issued by immigration (which I had because I have just bought a new bike with this). However most dealerships I visited insisted I needed the document from my Embassy.

Since I am going to have to go through this process anyway I am going to try and recoup some of my costs and sell it for more privately.

My questions are does anyone have recent experience buying or selling a second hand bike in Bangkok? I tried searching but people seem to say that depending on the time or the office the requirements are different. People were also arguing the merits for using a 'fixer' or not.

So I thought i would ask here. I understand I need to have signed copies of my passport. I hope to not need to go to the office with the buyer so found this form:

Would that be suitable as a form to allow them to complete the process on my behalf?

What else do I need to do? I read about signing the green book but am not sure what exactly that means. I will get the address document from my Embassy to ensure it is accepted as it seems the immigration document which is much cheaper to get might not be accepted? Does anyone have any experience with this specifically? Would it be worth trying with the immigration document first? Considering it is going to be 2,000 baht or more to get the embassy address document versus the immigration document.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

All the dealers should except a "certificate of residence" from immigration...if you dont want to goto the DLT with the buyer then yes you'll need a "power of attorney" form and remember to sign the greenbook (not always required but sods law)
Also write a receipt for sale of bike signed by new owner and keep a copy of their passport or id...this is to cover you incase they dont transfer into their name and/or use the bike for "misdeeds"
