BANGKOK: -- The use of one ticket system or “Mangmoom” joint ticket system for both skytrain and subway train travels is believed to be delayed after the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand  (MRTA) wants it to get board approval before signing memorandum of understanding with the two train operators.

According to the director of the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and planning (OTP) Chaiwat Thongkham, earlier the MOU was scheduled to be signed with both operators, Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS), the operator of BTS elevated rail service, and Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc (BEM), operator of the subway train service on Aug 31.

But the MOU signing was put off as the MRTA, which will be in charge of management of joint ticket system, wanted to ask its board to approve the signing first.

No surprise. Couldn't organise a p***-up in a brewery.

This was proposed years ago, shortly after the metro came into service, so what's another delay to the travelling public well used to inconvenience and indifference to their needs?

This is very sad, don't waste the time of your passengers.

And also the riverboats need to use the same cardsystem.

Many delays implementing this promised convenience. It's starting to be worse than the Pattaya tunnel

The Pattaya tunnel is at last open operational and free to use !
How it can be so difficult to agree on a prepaid travel card is beyond me ! [emoji54]

Probably because the Pattaya tunnel is owned and operated by one agency

Mass transit in Bangkok is made up of a hodge podge of entities that were granted concessions to build and operate the system, so you are in effect herding cats
