Thirteen passengers were injured when a Bangkok-Chaiyaphum fell into a roadside ditch at a curve of a road in Chaiyaphum’s Chaturas district early on Tuesday.

Pol Captain Chaiwat Toonchaiyaphum, deputy inspector of Chaturas police station, said the accident happened at 4:30am on the Chaiyaphum-Si Khiew road.

One of the passengers was severely injured and was rushed to the district hospital.

The bus driver, Phochai Sinthucharoen, said a pickup changed lane and cut in front of the bus, prompting him to swerve to the left and drive off the road. He said it was raining at the time and the road was slippery.

"Raining at the time and the road was slippery".... Going too fast then !

However, the claim that a Pickup cut in front of him is not unrealistic...  more unnecessary carnage involving public transport.

Yes, accidents / incidents happen elsewhere but no where near to the extent they do in Thailand.

Effective Policing and Driver Education is the only way this carnage can be reduced.

This of course takes planning and effort - Is this really a step too far? is it really that difficult to implement in Thailand ?

I can only conclude that those in positions of decision making power simply don't care enough about the issue of road safety.

The Bus 'fell in'.  No; it was driven in by a Moron who drives the same way in all road conditions and then makes up a story it was someone else's fault !

Atleast the brakes didnt fail this time. Maybe progress.
Glad it was a safe outcome.

At least he did not flee the scene, but i must say and this is not Thai bashing, that a lot of drivers here do not seem to grasp the idea of driving to the conditions, when it is raining of course one slows down, but the Thai mentality of overtake at all cost's,and that the car will react the same on a wet and slippery road as a dry one is widespread.

It's getting difficult to to distinguish the headlines.

Is it two or three days that the last bus accident in Chaiyaphum happened?

And again in the dark. 4:30 AM, DON'T ride the night buses!

Blasted rain making the road slippery !   Half the motorists here would be dead if it snowed.

and brakes were not working and he drove much too fast and a bit sleepy too. Of course it was not his fault. It's a shame that this invisible pickup did not stop.......

Someone told me this company has crashed 3 times recently, and they are only the times they have actually heard about. Not a company the locals are trusting currently.
