:o Hello to all (a newbee here )

I am going to Thailand for the month of February. I was thinking of getting some dental work ( 4 extractions and a bridge ) done while there. Does anyone have any advise, comments or recommendations. Any help would be appreciated

Bumrungrad's the best hospital in Bangkok, perhaps, and certainly one of the best for foreigners. You could definitly get it cheaper, but www.bumrungrad.com is certainly the highest quality. Still, it's much cheaper than the US.

suk 49 bkk thong-lo xit

bumrungrad is the pat response that people toss out that dont really use dental svcs in thailand. i personally recommend dh. im sure more can sign on as well - all the diplomats go there for work.

Dental Design on Soi Asoke (not far from Cowboy entrance :o ) was recommended to me by a couple of friends and I have since used their services on a few occasions and would definatly recommend them. Excellent service, very professional and not too expensive.

Dental Design has its own lab and largely specialises in prosthodontics: crowns, bridges and the like. I too think they're a fine place for this type of work.

The Dental Hospital is also a fine place and has a much broader range of specialties than Dental Design; they're also very good at responding to emails, setting appointments and the like.

If you do a web search, note that some clinics are trading on the reputation of the Dental Hospital with confusing URLs. This is the site of the Dental Hospital: http://www.dentalhospitalbangkok.com .

Thanks .It looks like the Dental hospital will be the first place I check out.

Lots of info on dentistry here on TV. Thanks to everyone who has shared, especially taxexile.

Dental hospital doesn't have any prices on their website. Can someone tell me how much it would cost to have root work and a crown for one of the molar tooths done at this hospital.

Thanks in advance.

Here at ThaiVisa, we constantly prove that Bangkok is not the entire country. You can get good work done in Chiang Mai (at the CMai Dental Hospital, at Grace Dental, and other places), and surely many other places outside of Bangkok. Example: a full set of dentures cost me about 6,800 baht. In the USA, it might have cost 38 times that much.

Thanks for the info. To be honest I hadn't thought of Chiang Mai . I imagine Khon Kaen might be a choice as well.

I paid about 3 or 4,000 baht for a root canal, clean and polish, and fixing of a chipped front tooth. Lovely dentist in Bangkok. Not completely fluent in English but he was just great, very gentle and always told me what he was doing. Commonwealth Condo, 159 Charansanitwong Road, Pinklao. Can't miss the building, its a great tall peach coloured building. If you're coming over Phra Pinklao bridge, turn right off Somdet Phra Pinklao Road (sometimes just called Pinklao road), into Charansanitwong Road, go another two hundred meters, and there it is on the left hand side, huge peach coloured building. His office is first floor, facing the road. Can't remember his name but hope he gets a customer out of this.

http://www.silomdental.com/index.html

silom dental is another good clinic in bangkok , they have a good website with detailed explanations of various treatments and their advantages and disadvantages.

Thanks for all your input on this subject

Checked out Silom, their prices are not any cheaper than here in small town Canada. Will keep looking.

Thantakit, another good place, has their fee schedule online and their fees (apart from implants) are similar to the Dental Hospital's (but look at the baht figures: the US$ quotes are outmoded):

http://www.thantakit.com/treatment-fees.html

Note that with the rise of the baht and general inflation, Thai dental work isn't the great value it was three or four years ago.
