November 4, 20178 yr When I download a movie I get an attachment for the subtitles, which is normally just labelled "English srt". I tried renaming the attachment the same as the movie but it just doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? eg. English.srt
November 4, 20178 yr What player do you use to watch the movie, that info could help answer your question.

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect I use a HD Media Center box to play through my TV. It works well with all kinds of movie files and will play subtitles if embedded in the movie. It's only a cheap box (around 1000 baht) off Ebay.
November 4, 20178 yr Do not do myself but believe file should remain as is but has to be in the same folder as the movie. Have no idea if that media player offers ability to pay or not..
November 4, 20178 yr As "lopburi" says both movie and subs file should have exactly the same name and be in the same folder. So you should have a folder called "My Movie" and in the folder should be Movie.avi and Movie.srt.

I download movies into qBittorrent, then I open what's called the "destination folder" that shows the movie name and subtitles, if any. From there I send the movie to a flash drive to play on my big screen TV. I change the name of the subtitles, usually labelled English srt, to the same name as the movie and send it at the same time as the movie, but still won't work.
November 4, 20178 yr Try sending the folder with the movie and the revised name srt file to your flash drive and see if the player allows you to open inside that.

November 4, 20178 yr Make sure you keep the full stop (period) punctuated after the movie name.Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect
November 5, 20178 yr Isn't there a button or access from your remote control? I have a Mini HD Media Box and there is a subtitle button on it. Others it might be in a menu from options or some such. Normal play does not include an SRT file unless you request it - it will not be automatic just because there is a file available.

There is a subtitle button which is always left in the ON position so it will automatically play subtitles if they are there.
November 5, 20178 yr It's usually also a good idea to add a language identfier t the srt file name... so for a movie called Big.Movie.2017.mkv. for example, the english srt file should be Big.Movie.2017.en.srt I usually use this site for finding other subtitles also https://www.opensubtitles.org/en/search/subs or else Podnapisi Pretty much any media player worth the name will play external srt subtitles as long as they are named the same as the media file and in same folder, and obviously with subtitles turned on in the player... You could always try VLC or Mx Player.

November 5, 20178 yr Can you run HDMI from your computer to the TV? No need for the media player or USB if you can.
November 5, 20178 yr I was assuming your hd media center box (whatever that is) is capable of having better players installed on it.

November 5, 20178 yr Are you sure about the sub being turned on? I do not have anything with sub to try but on my unit there is automatic playback of movies if not contained in a folder but if in folder everything would have to be set up each time I believe and suspect sub would have to be activated after movie started.

I'm a little confused how I would place the movie and the subtitles in a folder. Do you use qBittorrent?

First of all a movie can not have the MKV extension, because MKV is a container not a format. In the MKV container can be a movie called. Big.Movie.2017. AVI or MP4 or another format. The subtitle should then be Big.Movie.2017.srt ,(without the .en) en be placed in the same MKV container
November 5, 20178 yr I have been using Tixati for downloading for years now and find it excellent. And normally the download will be a folder. If you do not have folder it is easy enough to make (right click USB drive/new/folder) and then put the items into that folder.

Nope, I don't have a new folder option with a right click on my USB drive. On closer inspection the New Folder option is there once I open the USB drive.

November 5, 20178 yr Actually you do not have to open the drive to made a folder in it using file explorer access icon. Just right click/new/folder (give it a name-enter) and it will appear below the drive and if you open drive it will appear in it with anything else.

I just downloaded a movie that has an attached subtitle file, transferring it to my New Folder, and I'll see if it plays. Do I need to change the srt file to exactly the same as the movie? ie 24 Hours to Live. 2017.WEB-DL.x264-FGT.mp4.
