Sunflower spectacle draws tourists to Lop Buri

By The Nation

Sunflower fields on a 200-rai plot in the Muang district of Lop Buri province have started blooming, drawing tourists.

Local residents said both Thais and foreign tourists have started visiting the sunflower fields in Ban Khok Toom village in Tambon Nikom Sang Ton-eng on the road heading to Pasak Cholsasit Dam.

The sunflowers will bloom from this month until February.

Indeed some impressive views, maybe not worth a hundreds miles/km ride, but a nice occasion to get my revue-dancer body off the sofa.

The tour of the farm on a tractor-trailer was somewhat thrilling.

Have some small money with you, as they are usually not prepared to change a 1000-er for just a can or coffee

I would like to see 200 rie block of sunflowers bloom from now until February, basically, they will not, as a tourists thing to do it is in the next 2 weeks at the most, when they will be at the best then ,they will all die back .

But they will be plenty more to look at , some farmers grow them as a tourist attraction, having  2-3 blocks of 3-4 rie growing over 2 or so months, get off the main roads and they will be plenty about , only 5 minutes from me is a good photogenic crop 20 rie .

Thay are early this year most crops are not in flower until December.

That view is rather impressive, even been used as a backdrop on a Thai news program ,I have one somewhere of a sunset shot .

But no Mexican food worth shit.

Pipe down Brits and Euros.  You have no idea what good Mexican food tastes like. ?

Sunflower are not only a tourist atration ,but an agriculture crop ,a part of a lot of the local farmers income ,most farmers grow 2 crops a year ,maize, folowled by sunflowers . for seed production  ,this year maize prices have been low ,no subsidies  here ,so a lot of farmers are looking for a bulk of they income from sunflowers .

Ps ,If I could find a good orthentic Mexican restaurant , which I wil not find in LOS ,I would give it a go ,untill then ,will have to put up with what they is .
