Three Cambodians, Thai taxi driver killed in Chanthaburi crash

By The Nation

Three Cambodian migrants died and another one was injured when their taxi crashed into a tree in Chanthaburi in an accident that also killed the Thai driver, police said.

The accident happened at 4.50am on Saturday on the Na Yai Arm-Ban Khao Wongkot road in Kaeng Hang Maew district.

Pol Captain Suwej Woharn, deputy inspector of Kaeng Hang Maew police station, said Lamphun Kaewyai, 43, the taxi driver, was killed and trapped in his seat.

Suwej said one Cambodian man and two women were hurled through the taxi’s windshield and die on the roadside. They could not immediately be identified as they did not have ID cards with them.

Another Cambodian man was trapped in the back seat behind the driver. He was seriously injured and rushed to the Na Yai Arm hospital. He could not be identified either.

A witness, Methanee Sriwiset, 32, said she was riding her motorcycle to a factory to visit her sister not far from the crash site. She saw a taxi speeding before she heard a loud crash.

She found that the taxi had hit a tree, so she called police.

Whatever. All too familiar, sad to say.

Another and another sad statistic.

Accident.

"an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury."

unexpectedly

unintentionally

It sickens me.

What speed was this idiot taxi driver doing to throw the passenger from the backseat out the windscreen

Unrestrained and with the vehicle coming to a complete stop in milliseconds? Just 50 kph will achieve it. Just look at any crash-test-dummy video.

yes, singularly but not 3 together, remember that the front passenger nothing to stop them but the other two were in the back seat and the one behind the front passenger was thrown with sufficient force that even the seat in front of them did not stop them. 50kph no way

Why weren’t they wearing seatbelts. Oh, that’s right. They don’t believe in wearing them.  Just pray to Budda.  He will keep them safe.

Except there is no such thing as an accident.  It is an event or series of events that have defined and avoidable criteria involved. Often removing one or more of these ( speed)  in this particular instance would have a dramatic difference in the outcome.

Agreed. That is why in other countries it is refered to as a RTC, Road Traffic Crash.

However, and perhaps, it appears that a lot of drivers are "accidents" waiting to happen.

But that is enough on my views about birth control.
