Cha Am beach

Featured Replies

Over the years I have happily visited Cha Am and spent days on the beach. With the new regulations are there still beach chairs etc on Cha Am beach and umbrellas to keep the sun off children? Or do I need to bring my own?

I am sure they are apart from when they clean the beach on Wednesday.

There are more chairs and umbrellas than ever before, almost to the south end if the beach. All are removed every Wednesday for beach cleaning.

There are no umbrellas on the beach at Cha Am, if by beach you mean the sand. There are masses on them six days a week, however, under the trees on the foreshore overlooking the sea, with steps down to the beach.

You can hire them along with table and deckchairs for thirty baht a head  (Well, that's what Thais are charged!).  Most of the vendors have links with restaurants just across the road and pretty extensive menus, mostly of Thai food, at reasonable prices. Not sure whether you can order drinks, as I understand there is a move to ban alcohol as well as smoking on beaches.

I see they have already erected some smoking booths, ready for the inception in February of new laws which make it illegal to smoke on the beach (though, strictly speaking, these facilities are on the foreshore).  As these are cheap and cheerful tented structures with a roof but no walls, it is hard to see what difference they are going to make in terms of "protecting" non-smokers for cigarette smoke. There are still 15.000 on Cha-am beach most days.  Wednesday is a good day as all chairs have to be removed and they are, this allows the Local Govt to go over it all and clean up the place with lots of workers .  Mostly Thai Ladies and  they do a good job.  Thursday the chairs are all put back till the following Tuesday Wednesday is free again.  Seems to work well.

On Wednesday you can bring your family and a blanket or mat and sit under a tree almost anywhere...very nice.
