Lat Krabang police install flashing rear bike lights for free

By The Nation

Police in Bangkok’s Lat Krabang district are offering cyclists free installation of flashing rear lights on their bikes.

Traffic inspector Pol Maj Pipatpol Meesaimongkol said on Tuesday the safety effort had been underway for some time.

He said many district residents used bicycles and there were often accidents at night because motorists couldn’t see them on the dark streets.

Pipatpol said traffic police carry bicycle lights with them and routinely offer to affix them to the rear of bikes when they encounter cyclists.

Removed two off-topic posts and the replies to them. This topic is obviously about bicycles, not about motorcycles or traffic lights.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

That's wonderful. Shows real leadership in road safety.

Lets hope they put them on the back. It amazes me to see red lights on the front of bicycles here. The Thais seem to think its fine. Very strange.

What about headlights?

Probably just put a nice red light on the front! It is Christmas!

A positive story... However, what I would like to see more is the 'safety message' getting out there educating people of the risks they are otherwise completely ignorant of.

Have adverts on TV (between the soaps), educate in schools etc..

Well, there was never any information about safety given out at a school I once worked at, there is just a fatalistic attitude here.
