The full report does sound like it's suicide sadly

Which report did you read ?

I read both linked reports and there is no reference to anything which would point to suicide !!

Very sad though... RIP

I suspect the poster @toughlove is guessing it is suicide as no reason is given. This often proves to be the case in developed countries.

I think that is a stretch though in Thailand. Thai police are very unprofessional and often provide very inconsistent, inaccurate and conflicting information. They could just as easily be keeping mum due to the failure of a balcony railing.

Further information is required.

IMO a lot of these incidents are due to the balcony railings in most Thai Hotels.  In the west (taller people) there is a minimum height for all balcony railings, such that a 6 foot person would be stopped if they bumped against the railing.  In Thailand the height of all Hotel balconies is far too low - and is extremely dangerous to someone who is even 5' 6" and has had a little to drink.  Bump into a Thai balcony and your upper body will fall forward and 'trip' you over the balcony.  Yes there are some suicides, but I reckon a lot of falls are accidents caused by extremely low balconies.

Unless there's a hidden history I'd say this was an unfortunate accident. It 's strange how many people die this way in Thailand; I'd put it down to low balcony railings and drink. Certainly, if I was going to commit suicide, I can think of a lot more comfortable ways to do it.

And if she had overdosed on sleeping pills in a room locked from the inside the poster would be claiming it was murder

Brits and Irish are not used to being able to sit on a balcony, since the weather there is generally so awful. There have been many cases like this in France, Spain etc where they also don't barrier balconies enough.

Few drinks and unfamiliarity leads to unfortunate incidents. Death for want of a few hundred baht in building the guard rail a bit higher, I suppose they don't want to interrupt the view.

@toughlove could get a job leading CSI RTP with that level of in-depth analysis and detection!

Dumbest post for quite a while.

Where in the full story does it indicate suicide? My guess and it's only a guess she had a bit too much to drink and fell over the low standard railing as per Thai's building code. Solution change the building code and raise the height of railings retrospectively. Falangs are generally taller people. So start with high rise hotels etc.

I have absolutely no idea how you came to that conclusion. There isn't the slightest thing in either article to suggest it. Perhaps you could let us know where you see that suggestion.

I think toughlove was or is the forensic copper for balcony falls in Thailand. I may be wrong about that too!

Typical result after investigations," suicide". Case closed.  "Now I can go back to the station and have more tea"!

I've been seeing people jumping off balconies in Thailand almost on weekly basis, especially foreigners. Is it common everywhere else or it's popular news here?

no one knows what happened but there is absolutely no suggestion that she would have jumped. seems as though it was probably a very unfortunate accident. as said before and as happens in a lot of cases not just here but many countries that have very low balconies. Very sad. Thoughts with her boyfriend and family. for a dream holiday to end up in the very premature death of a young lady is so sad. RIP

I have been living in 4 different countries for the past 10 yrs but only see these kind of news regularly in Thailand. Either its not reported elsewhere or it happens so frequently in Thailand, especially involving foreigners.

Where? So I can avoid walking under buildings on the paths near those buildings.

I saw someone fall backwards from the third floor a few days ago. Their fall was partially broken by a corrugated iron roof at the first floor level and then some furniture for clothes hanging etc on the ground.

The were lifeless for a while. Eventually they began to stir and they were escorted off the premises(they had fallen into a resort next door) by security, with apparently just a few bruises around the elbows.

He was drunk.

So it can depend on how you fall.
