Israeli murder suspects apologize to Thailand for damaging the image of tourism

Thai media reported yesterday that the two Israelis involved in the revenge killing of a man on Koh Samui in broad daylight on Sunday had apologized to the Thai people for damaging the image of tourism.

They also asked the Thais not to criticize Israelis for what happened.

Yesterday Dolev Zuarez, 23, and Eyal Bokal, 25 were taken to Chaweng Beach by the Samui International Hospital for a reenactment. They were wearing balaclavas and bullet proof vests and accompanied by a lawyer appointed by the Israeli embassy and an interpreter.

BECTero reported there was a ,large crown of spectators including foreign tourists to watch the spectacle.

Dolev pointed to the spot where he had used a knife to stab 34 year old Mallil to death. The victim's girlfriend Rashel Oshana, 31, was also grievously injured after Eyal drove a CRV at their motorcycle.

Eyal denies being involved in the stabbing and did not take part in the reconstruction of that part of the crime.

It was earlier reported that the suspects had traveled to Thailand after the victim had tried to run them down and fired at them. He was reportedly given a 20 month sentence.

Speaking before the reenactment the two suspects said that they were sorry to the Thai people in general and the citizens of Koh Samui in particular for doing a bad thing and damaging the image of tourism in the country. They also asked the Thais not to blame Israelis in general.

The pair were arrested in Bangkok at an airport following the crime.

Thank god. I was getting annoyed with people offering their condolences to the slayed victim. Really wanted to grab some members on here by their shirts and ask, "What about the image of Thai tourism!"

Not too sure tbe Thai authorities have their priorities right, making it so important to apologise for 'Thai tourism' with such a brutal murder.

not a chance in hell they thought this up by themselves (or cared in the slightest) ; more fragile thai ego at play here

Although that is primarily the image that people who live in Thailand have of Thailand   .

Every Country has negative aspects and most people take a balanced view of the bigger picture, rather than just focusing on the negatives

Yes, and 'most people' (foreigners) would look at this apology and say, "yea, you've got your priorities grossly wrong here".

And they'd be well in their right to think and say so. You know - as the apology is aimed at them in order to persuade them that Thailand is a great holiday destination.

Their apology was probably suggested to them by their Lawyer with the hope of getting a lenient sentance

And the authorities 'probably' suggested it to the lawyers. Whatever the dynamic was it still doesn't make it a good idea.

The authorities are probably are not concerned about  long a sentence that the Israelis get .

Their Lawyers will be aware of the best way to proceed for their clients

Great. Thanks.

That doesn't change the fact that this 'public apology' wasn't a good idea. It's a bad idea that deserves to be called out for what it is.

It could be a good idea for the killers .

They could be facing the death penalty sentence .

If they are perceived to be two hardcore violent killers who came to Thailand to kill.

Issuing a public apology will show a different side to them .

I dont think that they should have issued a public statement that mentioned slavery, the junta , the RTP or prostitution , although they are issues that effect Thailand , I dont think that two Israelis on murder charges should mention those issues in their public statement

Thank you Thailand and sod your tourist image as except for the Chinese and Russians the image is well and truly damaged by you, what about those who died family's

You post is rather vague

If a judge reduces their sentences for apologising, I'd suggest that judge have their license revoked.

It's kind of hard to believe remorse for an assassination. And the apology is for damaging Thailand's image, so you're completely going off track.

You do understand the article and what people are getting at, right?

An apology ,a Wai, and guilty plea, they might end up with a 20 month

sentence as well.

??? They are really paranoid with this image thing. It would be a shock for them if they understod what bad image Thailand have abroad -  Whorehouse of the world, Land of Scams, Don't Thai to me, Worlds most dangerous roads, Slavery in their factories and on their fishing boats, Mafia style police force, Military junta run country etc. etc.

And  probably the tip of the iceberg in reality.

I think it is perfectly natural that-having just murdered someone in broad daylight-that you would first apologize for any potential impact it might have on the nation's tourist numbers.

These guys have an instinctive feel for what is really important in the greater scheme of things...

apology accepted.

the court sentences you to death.

next case.

Do you realise that the death penalty is usually commuted if the person pleads guilty and an apology is an admission of guilt

not in my court.

execute them.

next case.

Tourism money number 1.  Glad thais dont do anything to damage the image, if they do they never seem to appoligise

Isn't forcing them to appoligise on behalf of TAT forcing an admission out of them.  Why appoligise for something they haven't been convicted

I really can't believe the immaturity and naivety of some Thai people, despite being here for 15 years. The people that probably advised this apology hold positions of power and are supposed to be figure heads and wise heads yet they still believe this garbage makes any difference in the greater scene of things.Stop tarnishing your own country with such nonsense, work on a law and order system that is fair to all and becomes globally renowned rather that ask a couple of 'alleged' murderers to spout some nonsense.

and the tuk tuk scums that rip off tourists?,,,the idiot drivers who carry weapons, jet ski thugs, speed boat idiots and meth brained van and bus drivers that kill tourists on a daily basis?....any apologies from them for tarnishing Thai tourism?

Would you see this in any other country?

Give me a break with this self righteous B.S.

How about every time some local a-hole smashes a tourist, scams a vacationing family, stomps some old guy at a pub, runs over some poor pedestrian...where are the public apologies for hurting tourism then?

These guys are world class blame shifters....

They weren't really tourists. Should have come in on a business visa.... "Yes sire, we have some wet business to take care of and then we shall be on our way"

What a complete load of shit that is! Apologizing to thailand and Thai people for killing someone in thailand!! How does this reflect on anything even remotely Thai? There are murders commuted all around the world on a daily basis but never have I seen an apology to the people of that country for what’s happened within that country. Thailand is just getting so concerned about public image and keeping the almighty $$$’s coming in that it will try anything to bolster its image as being safe for tourists and expats to spend their money and to make investments, etc.

"I said it already, I'm sorry, what was I thinking, a hit in front of the airport, If we had known the Thai tourist industry would suffer we would have turned the job down, honest, we're professionals we don't work like that, a happy pass over to all you guys in Thailand and lets hope you pass over this little episode".
