About 100 students, academics and members of the public rallied in front of Chiang Mai University today (Wednesday) calling for an early election.

The demonstrators also issued a statement, calling for the restoration of free expressions and freedom which they said have been suppressed by the junta.

They also demanded the government to earnestly tackle corruption, particularly among its people.

Please have an election we are running out of money, they won't let us run stuff (we are red shirt) and now maybe we have to actually get a job if this goes on much longer

Although I to want to see elections ASAP in Thailand one thing I believe has changed.....................smell the cheese - you will actually have to go get a job no matter what happens

Silly people, wanting elections. Don't they know that the good people are taking care of things now. They even got rid of politics so the people can be happy all the time

Everybody knows governments all over the world, elected or not, are not really working for the people.

What difference is there if you are governed by elected officials.

And a demonstration in CM?

Who would have organised this spontaneity?

The Shins are hovering near.

Um, because the voters can eject elected officials in the next election, and the elected officials know this?

Unfortunately, in the USA and the UK at least, we have a very limited choice of who to elect should we wish to eject the incumbent officials. When there are only two viable parties, it's more of a duopoly than a democracy. That's not to say I disagree with the principles of democratic government, simply that the reality is often at variance with these principles.

The Swiss have democracy.  Unfortunately, most of the rest of the world who think they have democracies, do not.  :glare:
