Big is beautiful at Nakhon Ratchasima pageant

A 105-KILOGRAM woman has been crowned “Jumbo Beauty Queen” at a colourful pageant over the weekend in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

 

Kwanrapi Boonchaisuk, a daughter of former industry minister Prasert Boonchaisuk, claimed not just the top award but other prizes including being Miss Congeniality. 

 

“I was being myself at the pageant. My personality and my friendliness helped me win,” she said proudly.

 

 

The beauty queen, 29, said she had never considered her obesity a problem. 

 

“I like my figure and I am proud of it,” said Kwanrapi, who owns a bakery shop in Nakhon Ratchasima. 

 

She urged fat women to have self-confidence and believe in their potential. 

 

Contestants in the pageant must weigh at least 80kg. The top prize comes with Bt10,000 in cash, a trophy, and some bananas. 

 

The first runner-up was Kamonwansiri Thanasiriprasert, who received Bt7,000 and a trophy, while the second runner-up, Patcharaporn Tianphu, received Bt5,000 and a trophy. 

 

In the transvestite category of the contest, 30-year-old Bandita Sangkachart, who weighs 96kg, emerged as the winner. “Prior to the contest, I weighed over 100kg. But after a bout of flu I lost weight and almost withdrew from the contest,” said Bandita, who now has Bt10,000 and a trophy.

 

The first and second runners-up in the transvestite category were Patrampa Pornwessuwan and Suruwimon Wanwattanakul. 

 

The heaviest contestant in the pageant, Pipu Supachokethakoon, who weighs 156kg, also won a prize.

the average tv member may not be slim and fit but he is not the one selling or trying to attract females based upon physical appearance.  unattractive and or obese thai women with money seem to attract men based on the same premise.

Jumbo Beauty Queen? How sexist/racist/biased, is that? Right up there with one of the Operation Black Eagles statements. This, while the state of education in the country continues to deteriorate and decline in global rankings. Good job Thailand...

In general, the trend seems to be moving toward bigger, and fatter. In the US, they officially changed the dress sizes, so that now a 10 is an 8. Even the industry is participating in trying to make bigger women feel OK about their bodies. The gals in the US are huge. Many of them. Really enormous. As many of us have noticed, the women are becoming larger each year here too, though thankfully there are still alot of tiny ones. Those gals would be rushed to the hospital in the US. They would be declared anemic.

 

Part of it is due to the 7/11 diet, the proliferation of junk food, the heavy consumption of sugar, etc. 

Oh, I don't know...must be like having fun on a water bed...hmmm 

I do not think about big when I see some disgusting thing like that but only fat, fat, fat...

I find a lot of ladyboys quite attractive but a 96k one is hardly a thing of beauty and a joy forever. ( My Maths teacher called me that 60 years ago )

Interesting - are you letting on that you have a very large backside? 

 

I would agree  these women are storing up problems for the future. At least they take some care in their appearance - I presume most have seen what walks around in the West - I think the figure in the UK is two thirds of adults are overweight or obese.
