Police from several agencies arrested 75 foreigners in an operation to search 110 areas around the country on Tuesday night.

The arrests were announced at a press conference at 1:30am on Soi Cowboy in Bangkok by Tourist Police deputy commissioner Pol Maj General Surachet Hakpal.

He said the arrested foreigners included people from Uganda, Sudan, India and Cambodia.

Surachet said 34 of them were charged with overstaying tourist visas, 38 with unlawful entry into the kingdom, and three for working in the kingdom without a work permit.

He said Tourist Police joined forces with immigration officers, narcotics suppression police and local police to search living areas and resorts frequented by foreigners. The aim was to try to minimise crimes committed by criminals who disguise themselves as tourists.

The 75 suspects will be blacklisted and deported, he added.

This riff-raff have been taking over Sukhumvit for the past decade. Afreakin' pimps, pushers and problems. LONG overdue. One thing I do respect about Thailand...PC is BS and the playing the "race card" is a losing hand.

Playing race card a losing hand? How about reality...Have you ever had a conversation with a lovely Thai lady who tells you she's colored or black and therefore she is second class, while she has never been outside of Thailand to see that she would not be considered black or colored anywhere else? Try it sometimes. Race card is an American concept, this is total ignorance based in a caste system. ANY criminal needs to be brought to justice. Pay attention and see how many times the term 'light skinned' comes up.

Perhaps you misunderstand, Jim. Didn't say Thais weren't racist or "colorist"...au contraire. Thais are extremely so, and PC...not so much. Been here 2 1/2 decades and stick firmly by my first hand knowledge and experienced post. These Afreakin' riff raff have been polluting Sukhumvit for a decade now and it is long overdue that the Thai government finally did something about it. This is well known by anyone in the area that is not blind...or blinded by truth.

While I agree that ALL criminals need to be brought to justice, it's just that in these long past due instances it is this particular demographic whom are the known criminals and finally being brought to justice. Whining that they are being unfairly targeted because of skin color just doesn't fly here...so yes, playing the race card is absolutely a total bust here. And posters whining that this smacks of racism and/or the terminology is politically incorrect...playing the PC card...is another losing hand.

BTW...calling light complected people light skinned and dark complected people, dark skinned, shouldn't offend in the least. It is what we are. No different than saying brunettes are dark haired..and blondes and some redheads are light haired.

Interesting use of inverted commas (Fine line between prejudice/political correctness and humour).

I can assure you I have no prejudice against tailor shops, even the ones that stay in business for years without apparently attracting any customers with tailoring needs.

I'm equally open minded about tiny farang owned bars that have been around for many years but never have more than one or two customers.

I'm sure they just happen to be run by amazingly astute businessmen. On a loosely related note, I just had the good fortune to win the Nigerian lottery and am awaiting the cheque in the mail.

I also wonder about the designer shops in high-end malls. Never a customer to be seen in any of them.

There was a time. When Thailand was a country into itself. The culture and along with it, the corruption, narcissism and the belief in wealth relates to being a good person went hand in hand, which is completely opposite to their Buddhist faith,  however times were mostly good and farangs were happy until otherwise and so was the populace.
It worked
The next stage is going to be a lot more dangerous.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Ah says what your views are picking Socialists and Trade Unionists! the democrats and unionists would suit me!

i just thought i'd make an update.  i had commented earlier about not seeing one of the loan sharks on cowboy after a reported raid on an apartment block.  i referred to him as the 'foreman' of the sharks.  well, he was back on the soi this weekend.  but he was wearing a 'do-rag/bandana' on his head.  evidently his head had been shaved.  i wonder if he did a short stint in the jail.

also, i got word from two different sources on cowboy that the loan shark boys were not on the soi the night the police set up their HQ nearby to process all those they rounded up.  i guess they got word in advance.
